The opportunity
RunSmart Inc. is partnering with a well-established public accounting firm in Burlington, Ontario to find an Assurance Manager. Our client is a small, close-knit practice serving high-net-worth owner-managers and their businesses, with a reputation for interesting, varied work.
The firm does not perform audits. Its assurance practice centres on roughly 100 review engagements, mostly in the hospitality sector (restaurants, hotels and related operators). If you want manager-level responsibility without the audit grind, and daily access to Partners who will invest in your growth, this is a rare opening.
Our client is looking for an Assurance Manager with a CPA designation, or a senior CPA ready to step up to manager . The role is primarily in office, so you can support staff day to day and learn directly from the Partners and senior team.
What you'll do
Engagement management
· Plan, run and wrap up a portfolio of review engagements for the firm’s clients
· Prepare and review financial statements, working papers, analytical procedures and inquiries
· Oversee compilation engagements and related corporate and personal tax filings (T2, T1) where needed
· Manage budgets, timelines and WIP, and flag scope changes and billing issues early
· Draft engagement reports and management letters for Partner sign-off
Client relationship
· Act as a day-to-day contact for owner-managed businesses and high-net-worth families
· Get to know each client's operations, such as revenue cycles, inventory, payroll and tip reporting
· Spot advisory opportunities (tax planning, cash flow, reorganizations) and bring them to the Partners
People and practice
· Coach, train and review the work of staff accountants and seniors
· Help schedule staff and balance workloads through busy season
· Keep files in line with CPA Ontario practice inspection and quality management standards
· Take on special projects and one-off assignments alongside the Partners
What you bring
Required
· CPA designation (CPA Ontario member in good standing)
· 4+ years in public practice, including 1–2 years as a senior or a manager running review and compilation files
· Experience reviewing staff work and giving clear, constructive feedback
· Versed with corporate and personal tax for owner-managed businesses
· Proficiency with prevalent software such as CaseWare, Excel and a tax package such as TaxPrep or TaxCycle
