The Opportunity


Sea Centric operates the largest privately owned fleet of research vessels in Canada, including the only privately owned ice class vessels equipped for Arctic operations. From our base in St. John's, we bring vessel, crew, equipment, and compliance together as one accountable partner for high stakes marine work across research, defence, offshore energy, and government.


They are seeking an experienced Manager, Financial Reporting to help build the financial backbone of that growth. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will own the day-to-day accounting operations and play a central role in strengthening reporting, controls, and systems as the finance function scales. This is a role to build, not simply maintain: you will help shape process, structure, and reporting across a growing group of companies.


Working closely with operational leaders throughout the organization, the Manager, Financial Reporting will support vessel operations, chartering activities, scientific missions, grant funding initiatives, and commercial projects while helping drive financial excellence and continuous improvement.



What You Will Do:

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and fixed asset accounting.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Prepare financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis activities.
• Provide financial reporting and analysis to support operational and management decision-making.
• Monitor project costs and support financial tracking for grants, contracts, vessel operations, and commercial initiatives.
• Coordinate annual audit activities and prepare audit working papers and supporting documentation.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to ensure accurate project accounting and cost allocation.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

What You Bring:

• CPA designation required, or in the final stages of the CPA program.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or team leadership responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes and supporting annual audits.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Experience with project accounting, grant reporting, cost accounting, or marine and operationally complex environments would be considered an asset.
