Float Manager

Position Overview
Reporting to the Director, the Float Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of youth and/or adult resources homes, which will include providing temporary and transitional leadership coverage across multiple youth and/or adult resource homes, ensuring a trauma-informed and person-centred approach for both persons served and employees.
As a member of the leadership team, the Float Manager supports day-to-day operations, maintains communication with natural and paid stakeholders, and ensures adherence to CARF standards, funder requirements, licensing regulations, and organizational policies and procedures while covering Program Manager absences, vacancies, or periods of increased operational demand.
This position is based in Kamloops; however, the incumbent may be required to travel to and/or stay in the Kelowna, Vernon, and Terrace regions as operational needs arise. All such travel will be expensed by the company.
This position may include transporting persons served; therefore, a valid Class 5 British Columbia driver’s license is required. As a Service Delivery position, all work must be performed on-site. The schedule consists of seven 12-hour shifts within each two-week period.
Job Scope
- Provides temporary or supplemental management coverage across youth and/or adult resource homes as assigned. This may include travelling to other regions.
- Builds positive relationships with persons served, natural supports, and stakeholders.
- Conducts assessments, develops and/or Revises guidelines of care and program activities to enhance youth/adult skills to provide opportunities for the person served to move into an alternative living situation
- Liaisons with care teams ensuring regularly scheduled meetings are attended
- Advises Program Directors when youth/adult may require restrictive practices as part of their safety plan – ensures that all restrictive practice policies and/or direction are adhered to
- Responsible for reviewing youth/adult files and documentation for accuracy and appropriateness of information and writing.
- Provides coaching and training to staff on documentation standards.
- Ensures there are appropriate safety and risk management plans and that staff adhere to them to reduce critical incidents.
- Manages and debriefs critical incidents and reviews practices for changes to increase youth/adult safety.
- Manages all aspects of medication delivery, storage, and disposal, which includes individual staff monitoring, arranging annual medication training, and reporting medication errors in writing to the Program Director.
- Provides trauma‑informed coaching, mentoring, and performance management to staff.
- Is responsible for hiring, training, orienting, auditing employees' performance and executing discipline. As well as conducts HR supported investigations and grievances.
- Conducts monthly staff meetings that include an agenda and minutes and shares organizational information with all staff to ensure communication flow is maintained.
- Identifies training needs within assigned workload and arranges/delivers training to address skill deficit.
- Works collaboratively with Program Directors, Scheduling, Human Resources, and other departments to ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.
- Participates in the after‑hours rotation.
- Performs all other duties as assigned to support continuity of service across ACYAS homes
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in a related human/social services field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Three (3) years of recent experience in human services with a focus on trauma‑informed, person-centred practice.
- One (1) year in a leadership role providing direct supervision to frontline team members.
- Ability to pass and maintain a Criminal Record Check
- Ability to pass and maintain a Ministry of Children and Family Development Screening (HUB clearance)
- Community Care First Aid with CPR.
- A Class 5 BC Driver’s License, a clean driver’s abstract, and a reliable vehicle equipped with business‑use insurance that meets all required safety standards.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

- Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership for youth and/or adults with complex needs
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with complex needs and behaviours
- Demonstrate clear and sensitive verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to deliver confident coaching, supervision, performance feedback and discipline to staff
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong organization, planning and time management skills
- Sound critical thinking, good judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Training
You will participate in a comprehensive 11-day training program, followed by three (3) shadow shifts designed to fully prepare you to support youth and adults in a safe, effective, and productive environment. Throughout your tenure, you'll have opportunities for internal growth, advancement, and continued professional development through additional training and education offered internally and by third-party providers.
