Your opportunity:

The Department of French at the University of Toronto offers an exciting and immersive environment conducive to educating, motivating, and success. The programs we offer cover the literature, linguistics, cultural aspects, and understanding of the French language. Our objective is to develop the academic knowledge of all students using a series of methodology courses and research-oriented seminars, leading to the perfection of their research skills in French Studies. Located in Canada’s largest city, our department provides the necessary resources for the development of critical skills to utilize French fluently, as one of Canada’s official languages.

This is a part-time (60% FTE), continuing (permanent) position for three (3) days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Advising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
• Analyzing and making recommendations on award funding allocation
• Analyzing statistical information to inform enrollment projections and planning and preparing reports
• Leading seminars and/or workshops and producing promotional and outreach materials
• Reviewing and assessing admissions applications
• Coordinating the preparation and distribution of program and/or course material
• Analyzing service delivery and/or internal processes and recommending improvements
• Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
• Minimum four (4) years of relevant student experience working in graduate administration in a post-secondary academic environment.
• Extensive experience working with graduate level academic guidelines and procedures or other similar procedures.
• Experience providing senior administrative support for a graduate office, including coordinating scholarships and fellowships, developing and maintaining student records and files, maintaining statistical data and reporting, reviewing and assessing admission applications, organizing Ph.D. oral defences, providing administrative support to committees, and performing other related student administrative duties for a graduate office.
• Experience counselling students with relevant academic guidelines and procedures and providing relevant information.
• Experience determining logistical details required for the execution of admissions processes.
• Experience preparing, disseminating and coordinating course timetables.
• Ability to organize student events and promotional material.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills in French and English.
• Experience working with ROSI, ROSI Express, Degree Explorer and/or other related student database systems.
• Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office including Excel, and Word.
• Strong working knowledge with databases and preparing reports.
• Excellent customer service skills. Shows good problem-solving skills, accuracy and the ability to meet multiple deadlines while working in an environment with frequent interruptions.
• Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills. Proven collaborative and teamwork skills.
• Understanding and sensitivity working with students encompassing diversity of backgrounds.

USW Pay Band 12 -- $81,312. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $103,986. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
