What will your typical day look like?

As the Senior Carbon Specialist, you will help translate Deloitte Canada’s net-zero ambition into practical, measurable action. You will combine technical carbon expertise, financial and scenario modelling, procurement support, program delivery and clear communication to advance initiatives across buildings, business travel, technology and climate investment.

  • Plan and coordinate decarbonization initiatives across real estate and renewable electricity, business travel and sustainable aviation fuel, technology and supplier engagement.
  • Support implementation of Deloitte’s Global Net-Zero Transition Plan in Canada, translating global requirements into fit-for-purpose Canadian processes, controls and guidance.
  • Own and continuously improve Canada’s emissions model, decarbonization scenarios and multi-year investment forecast, including internal carbon pricing assumptions and sensitivity analysis.
  • Assess emissions performance, identify priority abatement levers and develop decision-ready recommendations and business cases for Purpose & Sustainability leadership, Finance, Procurement, Workplace Services, Technology and business leaders.
  • Help develop and execute Deloitte Canada’s beyond value chain mitigation strategy, including a diversified portfolio of high-integrity carbon credits, carbon removals and direct climate investments.
  • Lead technical and commercial due diligence for carbon and climate investments, manage vendors and support sourcing, contract negotiation, governance, monitoring and annual procurement cycles.
  • Maintain robust GHG accounting methods, assumptions, documentation and controls; support carbon footprint reporting, internal assurance and transparent internal and external disclosures.
  • Develop concise executive presentations, recommendations and communications that connect climate outcomes to business value, cost, risk and implementation feasibility.
  • Coordinate cross-functional workplans, milestones, risks and dependencies, and contribute to external collaborations and market-building initiatives such as sustainable aviation fuel demand aggregation.

About the team

The Purpose & Sustainability team advances Deloitte Canada’s climate commitments by embedding sustainable and responsible business practices into firm operations and decision-making. The Sustainability portfolio is focused on advancing the Net-Zero Transition Plan and supports Deloitte’s validated science-based targets: a 70% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions and a 55% reduction in Scope 3 business travel emissions per full-time equivalent by FY2030, from an FY2019 base year, as well as a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by FY2040. We also help drive climate-responsible and nature-conscious decisions across our operations and strengthen collaboration with internal teams, suppliers and external partners.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

  • Current knowledge of the GHG Protocol, Science Based Targets initiative criteria and net-zero transition planning; familiarity with assurance-ready data and controls is an asset.
  • A university degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, economics, finance, data analytics or a related field; a relevant graduate degree is an asset.
  • Approximately 5 or more years of relevant experience in corporate decarbonization, carbon accounting, climate strategy, energy, sustainable procurement, carbon markets or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience building techno-economic models, marginal abatement cost curves, investment scenarios or other decision-support tools across Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
  • Working knowledge of high-integrity carbon markets and carbon dioxide removals, including quality assessment, additionality, durability, leakage, corresponding claims and portfolio risk.
  • Experience with renewable energy certificates, sustainable aviation fuel certificates or book-and-claim systems, internal carbon pricing, insetting or climate finance is an asset.
  • Strong commercial judgement and experience supporting procurement, vendor management, due diligence and contract execution.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Tableau, Salesforce or similar reporting and workflow platforms is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical analysis into clear recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Strong project management and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across functions and geographies.
