Former Youth in Care Support Navigator

Job Responsibility: Position Information Position Number L00051 Position Title Former Youth in Care Support Navigator Division/Portfolio Office of the Registrar Department/Program Financial Awards Location Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, Salmon Arm Other Flexible Work Options Eligible for Hybrid Work Your Opportunity Reporting to the Manager, Financial Aid & Award, the Former Youth in Care Support Navigator provides outreach and guidance to prospective and current Former Youth in Care students. The Navigator shares information and facilitates connections to internal and external supports, creating a wrap-around support system. This includes, but not limited to, providing information on educational funding, supporting access to College services, and making referrals to community agencies. Functions and Duties 1. Provide ongoing one-on-one support to students facing complex challenges enrolling or currently in the program. This would require having working knowledge of a wide range of college and external supports, processes and systems that students may have challenges understanding. 2. Develops and maintains a working understanding of the function of each of the College's student support services in order to appropriately guide students on the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program to necessary supports 3. Collaborates with internal and external partners to identify supports, develop engagement strategies, and obtain input in the development and implementation of wrap-around support services 4. Provide outreach and develop supportive relationships with identified students on the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program through regular contact and monitoring 5. Assist in the administration and processing of institutional and government funding for Former Youth In Care 6. Provide students with accurate information, policies and procedures of government and institutional funding for Former Youth In Care 7. Organizes workshops and initiatives both on and off campus for applicants and students approved on the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program 8. Assists students in completing applications for funding 9. Participates in Financial Aid and Awards meetings to ensure information and processes are up to date 10. Performs other duties as assigned Education and Experience Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent plus up to and including one-year post-secondary education. Over 1 year and up to and including 2 years related experience. Skills and Abilities

• Experience working with at risk populations

• Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills; an appreciation for diversity, and adaptability different groups and cultures

• Ability to interpret and operationalize complex college and government policies and processes

• Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision, particularly in dealing with students

• Ability to work independently while supporting a team approval to the overall process

• Ability to work in an environment that has complex and sensitive situations and can exercise tact, discretion and sound judgement

Preferred Qualifications Desired Start Date 09/03/2024 Position End Date (if temporary) 03/28/2025 Schedule 20 hours per week. Schedule to be determined. Annual Salary/Hourly Rate $26.92 - $30.74 Appointment Type Support - Regular Part-time Special Instructions to Applicants A valid license is required as travel within the College region is expected.
