Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin Inc. is a First Nations-led health transformation organization supporting northern Manitoba First Nations in achieving health sovereignty, improving access to care, addressing gaps in services, and creating racism-free, equitable and culturally safe health systems.

The Minoayawin Mobile Outreach Program (MMOP) provides a bundle of low- to no-barrier services for unhoused residents of Thompson through a medically equipped van and clinic-based setting. MMOP provides trauma-informed health care grounded in anti-Indigenous-specific racism approaches that honour and give equal validity to Indigenous culture and ways of knowing. The program promotes healing, self-determination, respect, and dignity for unhoused community members living in Thompson, Manitoba, and surrounding First Nation communities.

Reporting to the Program Lead, Minoayawin Mobile Outreach Program, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary care health services as a key member of an integrated, multidisciplinary health and mental wellness services team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, Indigenous-specific anti-racist treatment and care to MMOP participants, their families, and Nations, working alongside Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Counsellors, Social Workers, Peer Support Workers, and other team members to support access to primary care, harm reduction services, and physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellness supports.

Qualified First Nation candidates will be given preference.

The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible to:

·       Establish relationship-based care with MMOP participants, their families, and Nations, providing racism-free, kind, respectful, and empathetic medical care.

·       Provide direct, specialized, and comprehensive primary care and nursing services emphasizing relationship-based care, social determinants of health, trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, health promotion, disease prevention, and collaborative care strategies.

·       Provide primary health care services including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, prescription-writing, vaccination, and evaluation in accordance with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba standards of practice.

·       Work collaboratively with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Nurse Practitioners, Peer Support Workers, Social Navigators, Physicians, Counsellors, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

·       Act as a clinical resource to the multidisciplinary team, health care providers, and community partners to assess needs, identify relevant services and supports, and promote continuity of care and wellness pathways for MMOP participants.

·       Improve access to effective and equitable primary health care for First Nations MMOP participants across the lifespan.

·       Support improved health outcomes for First Nations MMOP participants facing systemic barriers in Thompson and throughout northern Manitoba.

·       Work and advocate for an Indigenous racism-free environment and community using strong critical thinking, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

·       Remain committed to lifelong learning and professional development connected to the transformation of health and wellness services with First Nations people, families, and communities.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

·       Master of Nursing, Advanced Nursing Practice stream.

·       Current practicing registration and licensure in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.

·       Comprehensive knowledge of professional practice standards, scope of practice standards, and competencies relevant to nurse practitioner practice, with a commitment to ongoing continuing education.

·       Minimum of one year of experience in primary care nursing or similar experience in a setting serving First Nations community members and/or communities experiencing multiple barriers to health and wellness equity.

·       Experience working with First Nations in northern Manitoba is considered an asset.

·       Ability to medically assess MMOP participants, including the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of overall wellness, and work with a multidisciplinary team to develop care plans that meet the needs of participants, families, and communities.

·       Experience and/or certification delivering opioid agonist therapy and other clinical harm reduction practices is desired.

·       Comprehensive knowledge of health care, allied health, peer support, and People With Lived Experience disciplines and their roles in participant care.

·       Demonstrated ability to critically read and apply current health research in evidence-based practice and share expertise with multidisciplinary team members.

·       Demonstrated skill using medical equipment and supplies appropriate to clinic nursing, including the ability to evaluate equipment and make recommendations regarding new equipment purchases.

·       Ability to deal effectively with conflict, manage aggressive behaviour, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques.

·       Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, plan and prioritize work, and improve or adapt processes to achieve positive outcomes for MMOP participants, families, and communities.

·       Flexible, team-oriented, self-directed, outcome-oriented, and committed to respectful, collaborative problem-solving with team members.

·       Experience and knowledge of First Nations peoples and First Nations culture is desired.

·       The ability to speak one of the northern First Nations languages is considered an asset.

The following are considered conditions of employment:

·       Ability to travel on occasion as an MMOP team member to First Nation communities surrounding Thompson, Manitoba, by air, land, and boat.

·       Must be able to physically carry out the duties of the position, including sitting, standing, safely lifting up to 50 lbs., assisting clients with mobility challenges, bending, twisting, and driving for short periods of time.

·       Must be able to work with latex and other materials used in standardized safety equipment.

·       Must maintain licensure and remain in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.

·       Satisfactory criminal record, vulnerable persons, and child abuse registry checks will be required.

·       Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.

·       Must be eligible to work in Canada.
