Experienced CNC and Manual Machinist

Job Responsibility:

We are looking for a full-time Machinist who can operate both Manual and CNC Machines to work in our manufacturing facility in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Machines operated include, but are not limited to, CNC Plasma Cutters, CNC Brakes, CNC Shears, CNC Rollers, Lathes, Mills, and various other custom fabrication tools and equipment. Supervising apprentices will also be required.

Hours are approximately 40 hours per week, with the manufacturing facility open from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Yellowknife. There is also an opportunity for overtime based on project demand and fieldwork. This job typically requires ongoing attention and reflects how well the Machinist/Fabricator manages his/her time.

General Purpose:

The Machinist/Fabricator is responsible for providing machining estimates for custom steel machining and small fabrication projects. The role involves supervising new and various apprentice-level tradespeople and demonstrating the safe use of machining equipment while working on various projects.

Responsibilities include:

• Scheduling machining projects and collaborating on custom fabrication jobs with a team.
• Estimating labor and/or material costs.
• Conducting quality control and inspection for various projects.
• Preparing and planning for awarded projects to ensure the smooth flow of material through machining and fabrication processes.
• Planning machining projects and ensuring material and tooling are ready in advance to meet deadlines and due dates.
• Custom shop fabrication using a variety of CNC machines and manufacturing equipment.
• The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in fabrication and 5 to 10 years of machining experience.
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and specifications for materials.
• Strong math and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work within tight deadlines.
• Teamwork and coordination experience.
• Knowledge of fabricating equipment and CNC machines (brakes, saws, iron workers, rollers/benders, etc.).
• Familiarity with standards such as ASME, CWB, ULC, API, and ISO and/or COR.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• A positive attitude and strong teamwork skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Fluent written and verbal English communication skills.

Education and Experience:

• Trade certificate with over ten years of experience in CNC machining.
• 5 years of custom fabrication experience.
• Welding experience preferred
• AutoCAD and/or Solidworks experience is a must

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
