Overview

The Giant Mine Remediation Project is a landmark environmental restoration initiative near Yellowknife, NT, dedicated to protecting the environment and surrounding communities from historic mining impacts. The project operates a modern Class III Water Treatment Plant that treats contaminated mine water and removes arsenic through advanced treatment processes. This long-term remediation effort combines environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence in one of Canada's most significant contaminated site cleanups.

ATCO Frontec is seeking an experienced

Project Manager to lead the safe, compliant, and effective delivery of mine water treatment operations in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. This is an operational project management role, not a construction-focused position. The Project Manager will provide overall contract and site leadership, maintain strong client and Indigenous partner relationships, and oversee multidisciplinary employees and subcontractors responsible for water treatment operations, maintenance, environmental performance, safety, reporting, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and accountability for project delivery, contract performance, client commitments, and operational results.
• Lead teams, including employees and subcontractors, and establish clear roles, priorities, performance expectations, and escalation pathways.
• Oversee the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of mine water treatment systems and associated infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with applicable mine health and safety, environmental, water license, regulatory, contractual, and corporate requirements.
• Maintain effective working relationships with the client, Indigenous partners, community stakeholders, regulators, subcontractors, and internal support teams.
• Work collaboratively with Indigenous partners to support meaningful participation, respectful engagement, local employment, training, and capacity development commitments.
• Develop, mentor, and train employees and subcontractors, including cross-training, competency development, and knowledge transfer.
• Monitor water treatment performance, operational risks, maintenance priorities, staffing, subcontractor performance, and corrective actions.
• Lead project planning, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, procurement coordination, scheduling, risk management, and change management.
• Ensure accurate and timely operational, safety, environmental, financial, and client reporting, with strong document control and confidentiality practices.
• Coordinate emergency response, incident management, business continuity, and recovery activities as required.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, compliance, reliability, efficiency, team capability, and client service.
• Represent ATCO Frontec professionally and handle commercially sensitive, employee, client, and partnership information with discretion.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications And Experience

• Minimum 5-7 years of relevant project management or operational leadership experience in a mine environment.
• Demonstrated experience with water or wastewater treatment operations in a mining, remediation, industrial, or similarly regulated environment is required.
• Valid WSCC Level II Supervisor certification is required, or the ability to obtain it before assuming site supervisory responsibilities.
• Experience working with Indigenous partners, businesses, communities, or joint ventures, with a demonstrated ability to build respectful and collaborative relationships.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing employees, subcontractors, and service providers.
• Experience with operational compliance, safety systems, environmental requirements, budgets, schedules, contracts, risk management, and client reporting.
• Post-secondary education in engineering, environmental science, water treatment, business, project management, or related discipline is required. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent project management training is preferred.
• Experience in Northern, remote, or complex operating environments is an asset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project, maintenance, reporting, or document management systems is required.

Working Conditions

• This is a local Yellowknife position. The successful candidate must reside in Yellowknife, NT.
• Availability outside standard business hours may be required to support operational issues, emergencies, or client needs.
• Final candidates may be required to complete pre-employment, site-access, security, medical, or other project-specific requirements.
