The Health & Counselling Centre (HCC) at UTM is a multi-disciplinary health clinic that provides student-friendly medical care, mental health counselling, and health education and promotion programs and services to a diverse student population of undergraduate and graduate students. The HCC strives to empower students to make healthier, evidence-based choices to support their growth and development, assists students in their pursuit of academic success, and promotes adoption of positive coping skills to foster greater resiliency in the pursuit of current and future goals. The HCC works closely with other departments across the University with the goal of ensuring students have timely access to quality medical and mental health supports. Your opportunity: Under the general direction of the Health Education Coordinator, the Mental Health Promotion and Education Assistant assists with the delivery of the HCC's promotion and outreach activities related to healthy living. This education and outreach program is designed to assist UTM students and campus community members to have greater awareness of the information, tools, and resources that support people in making healthy choices to be better equipped to meet their personal and academic goals. The Mental Health Promotion and Education Assistant will work directly with student-staff and volunteers in the Wellness Ambassadors program, assist with the delivery of training and workshops related to physical and mental health, assist in the planning and execution of the HCC's annual large-scale fairs, Be Well UTM: Resource and Activity Fair, and emBODY Wellness Expo, as well as involvement in, and oversight of, the planning and delivery of other ongoing activities and monthly events. The Mental Health Promotion and Education Assistant will have a specific role in the design and delivery of mental health and substance use/abuse campaigns on campus.The incumbent will also have a supportive role in social media activities for the HCC and for the Wellness Ambassador program. There will also be opportunity to liaise and consult with other campus and broader community partners on a regular basis. Your responsibilities will include:

• Liaising with others to coordinate the preparation and distribution of promotional/outreach materials
• Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
• Evaluating and recommending appropriate work-integrated learning opportunities for students
• Advising and supporting students on peer mentor partnerships
• Developing learning outcomes for workshops and/or services
• Keeping well-informed on programs, services and facilities
• Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
• Directing the work of volunteers in defined activities

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
• Minimum three years working within a Health Promotion-related field, or within the field of event planning
• Prior professional experience maintaining social media platforms required
• Prior experience planning, developing and promoting events required
• Prior experience delivering educational workshops and/or training
• Prior experience developing programming and promotional information related to health and wellness
• Prior experience working with the emerging adult population (i.e., 17-24 year olds)
• Strong skills related to Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher)
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, especially within the dynamics of team-based work
• Strong customer service skills
• Strong time management skills

Assets (Nonessential):

• Experience maximizing use of social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook) to engage a specific target audience
• Prior experience developing evidence-based materials (updating website, creating brochures/pamphlets, etc.) preferred
• Prior experience with researching community mental health supports and working with substance abuse content preferred
