The Portfolio Strategist, Space Planning provides strategic and operational support to the Space Planning workgroup within Water Services. In this role, you would be responsible for leading a defined portfolio of space planning initiatives, translating business needs into actionable plans, and producing decision ready outputs that support prioritization, timing, and delivery readiness.

Operating in a complex, multi-partner environment, this position ensures portfolio visibility, alignment to corporate standards and governance requirements, and effective coordination across business units and corporate partners. Primary duties include:

• Lead a defined portfolio of space planning initiatives.
• Develop and maintain a prioritized roadmap of work.
• Identify dependencies, constraints, and sequencing across initiatives.
• Align portfolio activities to evolving business and operational needs and translate business needs into defined space and functional requirements.
• Conduct needs assessments and support scenario development and develop options, recommendations, and trade-off analysis.
• Ensure alignment to operational requirements and corporate workplace standards.
• Facilitate structured engagement sessions with partners.
• Consolidate diverse inputs into clear, actionable direction.

Qualifications

• A diploma in Planning, Business, Public Administration, Architecture, Facilities/Workplace Planning, Project Management, or a related discipline.
• At of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in strategic planning, portfolio management, space/workplace planning, business planning, or related advisory work.
• A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's Licence (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
• Intermediate level of proficiency using enterprise systems and MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) will be considered an asset.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills with the ability to support complex business initiatives along with the ability to manage multiple, constantly shifting priorities in a fast-pace environment.
• Strong facilitation, communication and engagement skills with the ability to build consensus and develop effective working relationships.

Pre-employment Requirements

• Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.

Workstyle

• This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
