Grand River Eye Care is looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and patient-focused Optical Sales Associate or Licensed Optician to join our team.

We are an established independent optometry practice known for comprehensive eye care, advanced technology, specialty services, and a premium optical experience . We believe eyewear should provide exceptional vision, comfort, eye protection, and style—and we take the time to help our patients choose the best solutions for their individual needs.

We are looking for someone who loves working with people, enjoys fashion and eyewear, and is confident educating patients about high-quality lenses and frames.

The Role

This is much more than simply selling glasses.

Our optical team works closely with our optometrists to take the doctor's recommendations and turn them into the best possible visual solution for each patient.

You will guide patients through frame selection, lens design, coatings, materials, and specialty options while helping them understand why one lens may perform better for their particular prescription, lifestyle, occupation, and visual demands.

We want patients to leave feeling confident that they have received expert advice—not that they have simply been sold a pair of glasses.

Key Responsibilities

Optical Sales & Patient Experience

• Provide an exceptional, personalized optical experience from beginning to end.
• Assist patients in selecting frames that complement their prescription, lifestyle, appearance, and personal style.
• Educate patients about lens options and recommend solutions based on their individual visual needs.
• Confidently explain the benefits of premium progressive lenses, anti-reflective coatings, lens materials, photochromic lenses, sunglasses, computer lenses, and other specialty lens options.
• Present recommendations confidently without creating a high-pressure sales environment.
• Help patients understand the value and benefits of investing in high-quality eyewear.
• Identify opportunities for second pairs, prescription sunglasses, computer eyewear, and other solutions when they genuinely benefit the patient.

Measurements, Ordering & Dispensing

• Take accurate optical measurements required for frame and lens fabrication.
• Verify prescriptions and ensure appropriate frame and lens combinations are selected.
• Accurately enter and submit eyewear orders.
• Inspect completed eyewear for quality and accuracy.
• Properly fit, adjust, and dispense eyewear.
• Perform frame adjustments and minor repairs.
• Educate patients about proper eyewear use and care.
• Troubleshoot prescription, frame, lens, and progressive adaptation concerns.
• Manage remakes and warranty issues professionally when necessary.

Teamwork & Practice Support

• Work closely with our optometrists and clinical team to ensure continuity between the eye examination and optical recommendations.
• Review and understand doctor recommendations before assisting patients in optical.
• Communicate effectively with doctors when clarification or additional information is required.
• Support fellow team members during busy periods.
• Help maintain an organized, attractive, and professional optical dispensary.
• Assist with frame inventory, merchandising, pricing, and maintaining displays.
• Develop strong knowledge of our frame collections, lens products, promotions, and warranties.
• Participate in ongoing product and optical training.

Who We Are Looking For

Our ideal candidate:

• Has previous optical sales or optician experience .
• A Registered/Licensed Optician is preferred , but we are also interested in experienced optical sales professionals with strong industry knowledge.
• Has a strong understanding of progressive lenses, lens materials, coatings, measurements, and frame fitting.
• Is comfortable recommending and selling premium optical products .
• Is confident discussing price and value with patients.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Is warm, approachable, professional, and genuinely enjoys helping people.
• Has an eye for fashion and enjoys helping patients find eyewear they love.
• Is detail-oriented and understands that accuracy matters in optical.
• Is motivated to continually improve their optical knowledge.
• Works well as part of a team and is willing to help wherever needed.
• Takes ownership of problems and follows them through to resolution.
