The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Technician 2 – Automotive Technician (Red Seal) + Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Apprentice to join our Surface and Underground Mobile Maintenance Team in Voisey's Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation.

This is a permanent on-site position, working a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotational schedule.

As a Maintenance Technician 2 – Automotive Technician (Red Seal) + Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Apprentice you will be responsible for repairing, troubleshooting, adjusting, overhauling, servicing, and maintaining mobile heavy-duty mining equipment.

Additionally, in this position you will:

• Inspect Bolters, Jumbo Drills, Haul Trucks, Graders, Bulldozers, Excavators, Shovels, Loaders and other surface and underground equipment for proper performance and troubleshoot equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
• Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.
• Adjust, repair or replace defective parts and components of the equipment systems.
• Disassemble and reassemble components such as engines, transmissions, cooling systems, fuel and exhaust systems, breaks, clutches, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems, and lubrication systems.
• Inspect, examine and test parts in order to recommend the extent and nature of the work to be done then test the final repair.
• Service attachments and working tools as required.

About You

Education:

• Post-secondary education in Automotive Service Technician is required.
  • Interprovincial Red Seal in Automotive Service Technician is required.

As well as:

• Qualify or be registered as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician apprentice Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, or Level 4 within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

OR

• Be willing to register as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician apprentice within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador and complete block training.

Experience:

• Minimum of 4 years of Automotive Mechanic experience is required.
• Previous mining experience would be considered an asset but transferable skills from other industries are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to work through troubleshooting charts and reading schematics would be considered an asset.
• Knowledge of and interest in computerized diagnostic tools and equipment would be considered an asset.
• Ability to troubleshoot Heavy Duty hydraulic systems, electrical systems and powertrains would be considered an asset.
• Experience with the repair and maintenance of CAT, Epiroc, Hitachi, Sandvik and Maclean Mining Equipment would be considered an asset.
