Purchasing Coordinator (Temporary 12 Month Term)

SMS Equipment is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive  Purchasing Coordinator  to join our team. In this role, you’ll deliver operational excellence in receipt handling, invoice processing, and travel program administration. This role is ideal for someone who takes ownership, influences without authority, and wants to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic corporate environment.

This is a temporary position with a term of approximately 12 months.

Work Location:  Acheson, AB.
Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 annually. This temporary position is eligible for extended health benefits.
Work Arrangement:  Hybrid – providing the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
Schedule:  Monday to Friday.

What You'll Do

• Receive and validate materials and services against purchase order (PO) and non-PO invoices.


• Ensure accurate coding, reconciliation, and processing of invoices in compliance with corporate policies.


• Resolve discrepancies by collaborating with Purchasing, Accounts Payable, and internal stakeholders.


• Maintain thorough receipt documentation to support financial accuracy and vendor relationships.


• Administer the corporate travel program, including invoice coding, reconciliation, and support for Concur Travel systems.


• Provide backup support for Executive travel arrangements as needed.


• Identify and implement opportunities for improving travel-related processes and governance.


• Support Logistics teams with receipt handling and invoice processing to ensure consistency across functions.


• Champion continuous improvement by leveraging technology (AI, OCR, RPA) to enhance operational efficiency.


• Uphold strong governance practices and compliance with purchasing, travel, and financial policies.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education in Business Administration or Supply Chain Management and 2-3 years of related purchasing experience . Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered. Additional qualifications include:

• Experience in parts or manufacturing environments preferred.


• SCMP or PCSM certification an asset.


• Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and attention to detail.


• Ability to influence without authority and build effective working relationships.


• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.


• Experience with AI, OCR and RPA technologies a definite asset.


• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
