The Actuarial Specialist is responsible for leading the pricing analyses, rating structures and predictive analytics solutions as an independent contributor. The role applies advanced actuarial knowledge to support business decision-making, regulatory requirements, and enhancing pricing methodologies while providing technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members. The Actuarial Specialist reports to the Actuarial Manager and works in conjunction with less experienced analysts.

What will you do

Pricing Analysis and Rate Development

• Lead complex pricing analyses and investigate trends impacting profitability, growth, retention, and rate adequacy.
• Develop and enhance pricing methodologies, rating structures, and actuarial assumptions used in insurance products.
• Review pricing results for reasonableness and identify opportunities to improve portfolio performance.
• Communicate pricing recommendations and business impacts to management and key stakeholders.

Pricing Models and Portfolio Management

• Develop, maintain, and enhance pricing models, including GLMs, machine learning models, and predictive analytics solutions.
• Analyze portfolio performance, rate level indications, dislocation impacts, retention, and new business growth.
• Conduct scenario testing to quantify the impacts of pricing, underwriting, and market changes.
• Recommend enhancements to pricing models, segmentation strategies, and rating algorithms.

Product and Market Analysis

• Monitor market trends, competitor pricing, and emerging industry developments.
• Support development and implementation of pricing strategies aligned with profitability and growth objectives.
• Evaluate new products, coverages, discounts, and underwriting initiatives.
• Provide recommendations to improve product competitiveness and customer value propositions.

Model Development and Technical Innovation

• Design, build, and maintain actuarial pricing models and automated analytical processes.
• Develop solutions using actuarial software, SQL, Python, R, Earnix, or other analytical tools.
• Improve efficiency through automation, data visualization, and process optimization.
• Evaluate emerging analytical techniques and industry best practices in pricing and predictive modelling.

Regulatory Filings and Pricing Governance

• Support rate filings and regulatory approval processes.
• Prepare technical documentation, exhibits, and actuarial support for pricing initiatives.
• Ensure pricing analyses comply with regulatory requirements, actuarial standards, and internal governance practices.
• Contribute to implementation and monitoring of approved rate changes.

Technical Leadership and Professional Development

• Act as a subject matter expert for pricing projects and strategic initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and peer review support to analysts and senior analysts.
• Assist with training, knowledge sharing, and development of pricing team capabilities.
• Continue professional development through CAS/FCIA progression and industry research.

What skills will you need

• Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field, with FCAS/FCIA designation or ACAS nearing Fellowship preferred.
• 5-8 years of pricing experience within a P&C insurance company.
• Strong knowledge of actuarial pricing techniques, predictive modelling, and data analytics.
• Experience developing and validating GLMs and other predictive models.
• Advanced proficiency with Excel, actuarial software, and pricing platforms such as Earnix.
• Strong SQL, Python, R, or equivalent programming skills.
• Knowledge of insurance product design, rate indications, regulatory filings, and portfolio management.
• Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to translate complex analytical findings into actionable business recommendations.

The expected base salary range for this position is $97,500 - $147,500. Depending on your relevant experience, skills, qualifications, market conditions and business needs, base compensation may vary. You have the potential to earn more through Gore Mutual’s discretionary bonus program which gives you an opportunity to increase your total compensation, provided the business meets its performance targets and you meet your individual goals.
