Duration: Long-term Contract (with possible extension up to 24 months)

Hours: 36.25 hours/week (7.25 hours/day)

Start Date: ASAP (June 2026 intake)

Project Overview

The JIMS 3.0 initiative is a major data modernization program within the Government of Alberta Justice domain. The project aims to replace multiple legacy IBM Cognos BI data marts (including JIMS, CFO, CCM, Courtroom Utilization, Courtroom Activity, and Case Adjournment) with a unified Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and integrated data marts.

The goal is to improve data governance, reporting efficiency, data accessibility, and historical data preservation while enabling interactive and near real-time reporting for justice-related data systems.

Role Summary

The Senior Data Architect will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and supporting the implementation of the enterprise data warehouse solution. This includes data profiling, architecture design, ETL development support, and ensuring alignment with enterprise data standards and Government of Alberta architecture principles.

The role also involves close collaboration with stakeholders, data engineers, and BI teams to ensure accurate data modeling and reporting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing legacy data marts and conduct detailed data profiling
  
• Design and document data models, mappings, and architecture specifications
  
• Identify and define dimensions and fact tables for the EDW
  
• Support design and development of ETL processes
  
• Stage and validate data for warehouse integration
  
• Develop and test Power BI reports for data validation and QA
  
• Perform quality assurance on dimension and fact data structures
  
• Update and maintain existing JOIN data models for new attributes
  
• Resolve data issues and implement minor fixes in delivered data marts
  
• Participate in enterprise data architecture governance and design reviews
  
• Ensure adherence to Government of Alberta data architecture standards
  
• Support transition planning from legacy systems to target architecture
  
• Promote data quality, reuse, and reduction of redundancy
  
• Provide architectural guidance to project and enterprise teams
  
• Contribute to enterprise architecture framework improvements
  
• Document enterprise data requirements and design decisions
  

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years experience as a Data Architect in enterprise environments
  
• 8+ years in enterprise solution design, implementation, and support
  
• 8+ years experience in enterprise data architecture principles
  
• 8+ years experience documenting legacy database solutions
  
• 5+ years experience designing and implementing data warehouse solutions
  
• 5+ years experience with SQL databases and Transact-SQL
  
• 5+ years experience working in enterprise BI and reporting environments
  
• 5+ years experience with cloud or big data platforms
  
• 3+ years experience conducting threat and risk assessments
  
• Experience with Agile delivery environments
  
• Strong experience in data modeling, ETL, and data integration
  

Nice to Have

• TOGAF certification (preferred)
  
• Experience with data modeling tools (PowerDesigner, ER/Studio, etc.)
  
• Experience with Microsoft Azure / enterprise cloud platforms
  
• Experience with Power BI development and validation
  
• Experience working in government or large enterprise environments
  
• Experience in Agile sprint-based delivery projects
