Role Description
The Director of Public Transit provides strategic and operational leadership for Codiac Transpo. You will oversee all aspects of transit operations including service delivery, fleet and infrastructure management, financial planning, administration, customer service, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.


Leading a team of approximately 120 employees, including five direct-report managers, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality transit services while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and service excellence. This role requires a leader who can balance long-term strategic priorities with day-to-day operational demands while building strong relationships with municipal leaders, elected officials, employees, union representatives, and community stakeholders.



Your responsibilities will include:

• Provide overall strategic and operational leadership for Codiac Transpo and its people, services, assets, and budgets.
• Lead the implementation of the Transit Growth Strategy, including route expansion, service enhancements, and operational improvements.
• Oversee all transit functions including operations, finance, fleet management, infrastructure, technology, administration, and customer service.
• Manage operating and capital budgets while ensuring effective stewardship of public resources.
• Lead major capital projects, including fleet expansion and replacement initiatives, transit technology investments, and future transit facility development.
• Develop, mentor, and support a high-performing leadership team while fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
• Promote strong labour-management relationships and provide leadership within a unionized working environment.
• Monitor operational performance, safety, customer experience, and service reliability while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with municipal partners in Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview on service planning, governance matters, cost-sharing discussions, and regional transit initiatives.
• Provide recommendations and presentations to senior leadership, municipal councils, and the Public Transit Governance Committee.
• Build strong relationships with community partners, elected officials, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
• Support the adoption of innovative technologies, systems, and best practices to improve operational effectiveness and customer service.

Your Qualifications:

Your qualifications will include: 

• A post-secondary degree in business administration, public administration, transportation, engineering, planning, or a related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience within public transit, transportation, municipal operations, or a similarly complex service environment.
• Direct experience within public transit operations, transit planning, or transportation services.
• Experience managing large teams and developing high-performing leaders.
• Demonstrated success operating within a unionized environment.
• Strong financial acumen with experience overseeing operating and capital budgets.
• Experience leading organizational change, service improvements, and strategic initiatives.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making abilities.
• The ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining a focus on customer service, safety, and operational excellence.
• Valid driver's licence.

Assets include:

• Senior leadership experience within a municipal transit organization.
• Experience implementing transit growth strategies or major service expansion initiatives.
• Experience overseeing fleet modernization, fleet replacement, or transit infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of emerging transit technologies and industry best practices.
• Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
