Based in Etobicoke, Ontario, we are seeking an Associate, Underwriting & Investments to join our team.
The Role
As Associate, Underwriting & Investments you’ll play a key role in underwriting both commercial and residential mortgage investments, as well as real estate equity investments across Ontario. You’ll collaborate with our internal origination and underwriting teams, borrowers, realtors, mortgage brokers, lending partners, etc., applying your keen analytical skills to drive high-quality deals.
What You’ll Do
- Underwrite commercial and residential mortgage investments, as well as real estate equity investments with third-party sponsors.
- Collect and analyze comparable sales data as part of the underwriting process.
- Liaise with realtors to facilitate appraisals and ensure accurate property evaluations.
- Work closely with borrowers, compiling and organizing underwriting materials from start to finish.
- Review underwriting documents, including environmental reports, geotechnical studies, and appraisals.
- Support the origination team in evaluating and structuring new opportunities.
- Ensure underwriting processes align with company standards and contribute to a robust investment pipeline, and
- Other duties as required.
What You Bring
- A degree, ideally in Finance, Real Estate, or a related discipline.
- 4+ years of experience in underwriting, mortgage finance, or real estate investment roles.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in comparable market data analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial modeling tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
- Experience liaising with realtors, borrowers, and third-party consultants.
- Familiarity with environmental, geotechnical, and appraisal reports in the underwriting process.
- A team-oriented attitude, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Experience in real estate lending or equity investments is a plus.
