Structural Engineer - Project Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Structural Engineer - Project Manager based in Canada.

This is a senior engineering and project leadership opportunity focused on delivering structural projects from concept through completion. You will combine hands-on structural engineering expertise with ownership of project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, and client relationships. The role involves close coordination with architects, consultants, contractors, fabricators, detailers, and erectors across multidisciplinary project teams. You will provide technical oversight while ensuring designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications meet applicable codes, standards, and quality expectations. Strong commercial awareness will be important when balancing engineering requirements with constructability, timelines, budgets, and client priorities. The position is well suited to a proactive professional who enjoys managing multiple projects and taking ownership of successful delivery. It also offers opportunities to develop technical leadership, project management, and client-facing expertise within a technology-enabled engineering environment.

• Lead structural engineering projects from kickoff through design, coordination, delivery, and final closeout, maintaining ownership of project outcomes.

• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, engineering hours, resources, deliverables, and risks while proactively addressing issues that could affect successful delivery.

• Design, analyze, review, and provide technical oversight for structural systems, ensuring engineering work meets applicable codes, standards, and quality requirements.

• Review structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and other technical deliverables for accuracy, constructability, quality, and compliance.

• Lead communication with clients and stakeholders, coordinating effectively with architects, consultants, contractors, fabricators, detailers, erectors, and other project partners.

• Coordinate structural engineering requirements with detailing, fabrication, erection, architectural, and other disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.

• Manage RFIs, design revisions, scope changes, technical challenges, and change orders, ensuring timely resolution and clear documentation.

• Lead project meetings and communicate project status, priorities, risks, decisions, and required actions clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

• Support proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, project schedules, resource planning, and other business development activities.

• Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication, technical credibility, and consistent project delivery.

• Mentor junior engineers and technical staff while promoting technical quality, efficiency, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

• Apply structural engineering expertise to projects designed to Canadian CISC standards, with opportunities to support projects using AISC standards through U.S. operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree is considered an asset.

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada or eligibility for professional registration.

• Minimum of 4 years of structural engineering experience, including demonstrated project coordination or project management responsibilities.

• Strong experience in structural steel design, fabrication, detailing, erection, and construction processes.

• Solid knowledge of applicable Canadian building codes, structural design standards, materials, and engineering practices.

• Knowledge of AISC standards and experience with U.S. structural steel projects is an asset.

• Proven ability to manage project schedules, budgets, engineering resources, deliverables, priorities, and client expectations.

• Strong understanding of constructability and the ability to balance technical requirements with project cost, schedule, fabrication, erection, and client needs.

• Commercial awareness, including an understanding of project costs, engineering hours, schedules, scope management, and profitability.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with clients and multidisciplinary stakeholders.

• Strong leadership, decision-making, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

• Highly proactive and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.

• Experience working with architects, consultants, contractors, steel fabricators, detailers, and erectors is an asset.

• Familiarity with Tekla Structural Designer, Excel, IDEA StatiCa, Bluebeam, RISA Suite, Revit, or RAM Connection is considered an asset.

• Strong motivation to continue developing technical, leadership, and project management capabilities.

• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and able and willing to travel to the United States as required.
