BACKGROUND:

SCO is a growing and dynamic regional First Nation organization that represents 33 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and more than 92,000 citizens in what is now southern Manitoba. Established in 1999 by the Chiefs, SCO is mandated as an independent organization to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance First Nation peoples’ inherent rights, languages, customs, and traditions through the application and implementation of the spirit and intent of the Treaty-making process. 

OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Community Health Services Program Manager, the Health Projects Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and oversight of SCO health projects in partnership with community organizations. This includes managing specific deliverables related to the Phlebotomy project, Diabetes Project, Indigenous Health Equity Fund (IHEF) and other emerging health projects. This role is required to liaise with community partners, funders, and contractors/suppliers, and ensure accurate tracking and reporting. The Health Projects Coordinator also works closely with internal teams and First Nations leadership and Health Directors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Coordinate and deliver SCO-led initiatives (Phlebotomy project, Diabetes Project, IHEF) and support other emerging health initiatives

·         Develop timelines, implementation plans, and evaluation frameworks for projects 

·         Compile narrative and financial reports for internal and external stakeholders 

·         Collaborate with legal and finance teams to uphold accountability mechanisms 

·         Maintain strong, respectful communication with Chiefs, Health Directors, Funders, and community representatives 

·         Liaise with external contractors/partners to support project implementation 

·         Provide regular updates on project status 

·         Represent SCO in meetings and forums related to various project initiatives

·         Support planning related to health projects and implementation 

·         Maintain organized project records, correspondence, and documentation 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Indigenous Studies, Public or Business Administration, Health, or the Social Sciences 

·         A minimum of three (3) years of experience within health care, related First Nations organizations, or the non-profit sector, including responsibility for projects and operational or financial management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered 

·         Experience planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating federally or provincially funded projects/initiatives in collaboration with First Nations 

·         Experience analyzing data to prepare reports, charts, and presentations

·         Experience working in a First Nation Organization or Health Centre with the ability to build relationships and engage with SCO member Nations, government representatives, Indigenous organizations, and community stakeholders 

·         Thorough understanding of First Nations culture, governance, and traditions—both on- and off-reserve

·         Strong understanding of Indigenous and Western health models and Indigenous Determinants of Health in First Nations

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills including experience preparing reports and presenting summaries to stakeholders, leadership, health professionals, and community members

·         Self-directed, highly organized, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

·         Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and Online Forms  

·         Ability to speak Dakota or Anishinaabemowin is considered an asset

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

·         Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check

·         Must have a valid class 5 MB driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle as travel to partner sites or First Nation communities will be required (with advance notice)

·         If the employee is a member of a registered profession, they must be a member in good standing with their regulatory body

WAGE RANGE: $65,000 - $80,000 Annually
