Join Our Team as a Site Safety Specialist!

Maxan is looking for a proactive, experienced, and hands-on Site Safety Specialist to join our Safety team.

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working directly with field employees, Foremen, Superintendents, and Project Managers to ensure our sites meet legislative, company, and project safety requirements.

You’ll travel regularly between project sites to conduct inspections, provide coaching and training, investigate incidents, and support proactive safety initiatives.

What You’ll Do

• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, Maxan policies, and project requirements.


• Identify hazards and work with site teams to implement practical corrective and preventative actions.


• Monitor site activities and provide guidance on safe work practices, hazard assessments, and site-specific safety requirements.


• Assist with the development and maintenance of site-specific safety plans and support the consistent application of Maxan’s safety programs and procedures.


• Provide on-site coaching and mentorship to employees, Foremen, and Superintendents on health and safety requirements and best practices.


• Promote employee participation in safety initiatives, hazard reporting, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and Joint Health and Safety Committee activities.


• Respond to workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and safety concerns as required.


• Conduct incident investigations, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and follow up to ensure actions are completed.
  


• Maintain accurate inspection, audit, training, and incident records and prepare reports on safety performance and trends.


• Support internal and external safety audits, including documentation, evidence collection, and follow-up related to Maxan’s pursuit of COR certification.


• Participate in Maxan’s annual Safety Day, Steps for Life walks, and other company health and safety initiatives as required.


• Stay current on changes to health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices and recommend opportunities to improve safety performance.
  

What You Bring

• 3-5+ years of construction health and safety experience, specifically working closely with job sites.


• Strong knowledge of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Projects Regulation.


• Experience conducting site inspections, safety audits, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.


• The ability to coach and influence field employees and leaders on safe work practices.


• Strong communication, organization, reporting, and time management skills.


• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, and an NCSO, CRSP, or other recognized Canadian safety designation are considered assets.


• Current Ontario safety training, including Worker and Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness, Working at Heights, and WHMIS, along with valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR/AED certification.


• A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel regularly between GTHA / Southwestern Ontario project sites.

Salary Range: $70,000-$85,000/year (actual compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, skills, and overall fit for the role).
