ABOUT THE TEAM
The Prairie Research Kitchen (PRK) is an applied research centre of excellence in Food Research. The team at Prairie Research Kitchen has a mix of culinary and food science skills, applied to solving new product development and production challenges and opportunities for Western Canadian food manufacturing and food service organizations. We are dedicated to cultivating an inclusive and respectful workplace where all members of the team are supported, valued, and empowered to excel in their professional roles.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Research Intern will participate in applied research activities associated with the applied research group, Prairie Research Kitchen. The incumbent will be responsible for hands-on food product development in collaboration with the PRK research team.  Their administrative duties will include recipe development, note taking, data entry, contributions to reports, product ordering and participation in cooking demonstrations.  Part-time options may be available upon request.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

• Recent graduate within the last 6 months from Culinary Skills, Professional Baking or the Culinary Diploma programs 
• Self-identifies as an Indigenous person
• Demonstrated ability and experience using various kitchen equipment and tools
• Knowledge of cooking or baking processes in commercial kitchens
• Time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work within teams
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook
• Communication skills with the ability to interact with a variety of research participants
• Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement

NICE TO HAVE

• Openness to using AI tools as relevant to role specific work
• Experience with recipe development
• Previous restaurant experience outside of school
• Knowledge of Indigenous food, culture and community

• Salary Range for this position:  $45,052 - $63,505 per annum
• Generous Paid Vacation: full-time employees accumulate a minimum of 15-days vacation per year, increasing to 30 days with service, while full-time Instructors accumulate 44 days per year. Information on casual and part-time vacation accrual is outlined in the Collective Agreement or the Terms and Conditions for Excluded Employees as applicable
• December Break: employees receive time off with pay during the period between Boxing Day and New Year's Day
