Who we are
Our mission at Quandri is to transform insurance into a trusted and delightful experience using AI. We're doing this by delivering an AI operating system for North America's leading insurance agencies and brokerages.
What we do
Quandri is transforming the insurance experience for policyholders across North America by providing AI to the industry's critical stakeholders - insurance agencies and brokerages. Insurance agents are the lifeblood of the insurance industry, and are where most Property & Casualty insurance is sold and serviced. Yet, there are forces making it harder than ever for them to operate; more consolidation, rising talent crisis, increasing complexity of insurance and the AI revolution are significant challenges for how agencies have typically operated.
This challenge is a massive opportunity to rethink how insurance agencies operate. Quandri is at the cutting edge of this change, delivering transformation to the entire insurance experience one process at a time through the deep understanding of insurance workflows, systems and data paired with deep technical capabilities and proprietary models.
We're making insurance better for policyholders, while helping insurance brokerages deliver a better client service, grow faster, and harness AI so that they control the future of insurance distribution.
Why join us?

About the Role
This is Quandri's first in-house legal hire, and it exists because our contract volume has outgrown the model of routing everything through external counsel. We sell to some of the largest brokerages and agency networks in North America. That means negotiations, redlines, security reviews, and data licensing questions, on deals that matter.
We're looking for a commercially-minded lawyer, who wants their first or second in-house seat and wants to take on ownership. You'll own the deal desk: the templates, the playbooks, the fallback positions, and the negotiations themselves. You'll report to and partner closely with the Head of Finance & Operations, and work with external counsel when necessary. You'll also partner closely with our Operations team, who owns our SOC 2 program and vendor management, while you own the contractual and data protection side of that work.
This is a role for someone who wants to be in the deal, and who is energized by a job description that will keep changing. You'll sit with Sales on live negotiations, with Product and Engineering on how our AI actually handles customer data, and with the exec team on the risks worth taking. Some weeks you'll be deep in a redline; others you'll be figuring out an AI governance framework or a partnership structure that nobody here has done before. If you want to build a legal function from a blank page in an AI-native company and grow with it, this is that job.
What you'll do
Own the deal desk - Run customer contracting: MSAs, order forms, change orders, DPAs, and NDAs. You'll take first pass and final pass on redlines, negotiate directly with counterparty counsel and procurement, and be the person Sales comes to when a deal is stuck on terms. External counsel stays involved on our largest enterprise agreements; you own everything else and you own the relationship with them on the deals that do go out.
Build the contracting infrastructure - Build out our templates, negotiation playbooks, fallback positions, and approval thresholds so that most deals never need a lawyer at all. The goal is not to review more contracts, it's to build a system where the obvious ones move without you and your attention goes to the ones that actually carry risk.
Own the contractual side of security and privacy - You own data processing and data residency terms, sub-processor commitments, security exhibits, SLAs, and the security and privacy commitments we make to customers. You'll support the Operations team on drafting SOC 2 policies and stand behind the customer-facing security questionnaires and audits our enterprise deals depend on.
Work with external counsel - Be the point of contact for external counsel and any specialist counsel. Over time you'll decide what goes out, help control the spend, and bring work in-house as our playbooks mature.
Special Projects - Take on high-impact cross-functional work that needs a legal lens: corporate and financing matters, employment and equity questions, partnership structures, insurance regulatory questions, and the AI governance framework a company like ours should be operating under.
Own vendor agreements - Review and negotiate our inbound vendor, integration, and data licensing agreements, including the AI usage, data rights, and model training terms that come with operating in this space. You'll partner with the Operations team on the authority matrix and risk thresholds that determine which agreements route to you.
The right person for this role will have
A JD, bar admission and roughly 2 to 5 years of practice - The profile we have in mind is 2 to 3 years at a large firm, ideally with 1 to 2 years in-house at a technology company on top of it. You'll need to be called to the bar in a Canadian or US jurisdiction.
Hands-on commercial contracting experience - You've drafted and negotiated commercial agreements, and ideally MSAs, order forms, DPAs, or vendor agreements specifically. You're developing a feel for where the leverage sits in a negotiation, and you're ready to run them yourself.
A working knowledge of data protection and security terms, and the appetite to go deep - You've seen DPAs, sub-processor terms, data residency, and security exhibits, and you're comfortable getting up to speed fast on the privacy regimes that apply across Canada and the US. You don't need to be an expert on day one. You do need to want to become one.
Commercial judgment over legal perfectionism - You size risk rather than eliminate it, and you can explain to a non-lawyer why a clause matters in plain English. You're learning which battles to fight and which to trade away, and you'd rather help the business move than be the reason it stalls.
Embraces ambiguity - You thrive when there's no playbook. This is a blank page, and you need to be someone who builds the right level of structure without slowing the business down, rather than waiting for someone to tell you what the structure should be.
Energized by AI - You're an active AI user with a point of view on what works, and you're excited to rebuild legal work you've done by hand in an AI-native way. Contract review, first-pass redlines, and clause comparison should be workflows you build over time with your judgment as the layer on top.
Strong communication across levels - You can walk an AE through a fallback position, brief the exec team on a data licensing risk, and hold a negotiation with opposing counsel in the same afternoon.
A builder's instinct - When you see a gap, your first instinct isn't to flag it and move on, it's to start fixing it. You 'run toward the fire' and operate as a high-agency individual.
Bonus points if you have
In-house experience at a technology or SaaS company
Experience with AI, machine learning, or data licensing terms
Insurance or regulated industry experience
Exposure to SOC 2 or ISO 27001
Experience building AI-assisted contract review or negotiation workflows
Startup or scale-up experience
Our guiding principles
Customers at the core. We put the customer at the center of all we do. At a basic level, we believe business success comes down to talking to customers and building something they want. We don't listen to customers and just take what they say blindly, but we think critically about it and build what they need. Customers are the core of everything we do, and our business exists to serve them. We prioritize their needs over all else within the company.
Move with urgency. There are times when we need to move slowly and deliberately, but we default to acting fast and with urgency. We slow down when necessary, but this should be a deliberate choice. Businesses become more lethargic as they grow, this principle is designed to fight this fact.
Be curious. We understand the world by being curious and asking why. We aren't satisfied with surface level understanding, and seek a deeper understanding of why things are the way they are. Don't take someone's word for it or the answer "because that's how we do it." Understand why and dig deep.
Excellence in execution. We know that what separates good from great is a high level of execution. We commit ourselves to excellence in everything that we do, from delivering an amazing product to writing a great email.
Act like an owner. We're all owners of the business and act like it. We follow through on commitments, own our results and think long-term.
Fight for simplicity. The law of increasing functional information states that systems evolve to become more complex over time. At Quandri, we believe there is sophistication in simplicity; as such, we intentionally fight for streamlined solutions and are committed to the uncomplicated.
AI-first. We believe AI is a fundamental shift in how work gets done, not just a tool we occasionally reach for. At Quandri, we lead with AI, in how we build our product, how we run our operations, and how we think about every process and workflow. This isn't about replacing people; it's about unlocking them to do higher-value work.

Quandri is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. As an equal opportunity employer, Quandri does not engage in discrimination based on race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or any other legally protected status.
Don't let imposter syndrome stop you from applying. Great people sometimes don't have the "right" experience. If you think that you'll be amazing at this role then we encourage you to apply.
At Quandri, we build technology that automates the repetitive so people can focus on what actually matters, and we apply that same philosophy internally. In our hiring process, that means using AI to handle the administrative and logistical work so our interviewers can show up more fully in every conversation with you.
AI tools support parts of our process, such as analyzing resumes and taking notes during interviews. But AI is never the decision maker. Every hiring decision is made by real people who are invested in getting it right, for you and for Quandri.
If you have questions about how your information is handled or how we use AI, don't hesitate to reach out.
