The Opportunity

Our client, an established North American manufacturer of custom heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, is looking for a Sales Engineer to join its team in Vancouver, BC. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded professional who enjoys developing relationships, solving complex application challenges and helping consulting engineers, contractors and building owners select the right HVAC solutions for their projects. The successful candidate will manage opportunities throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, working closely with customers from the initial design and specification stage through equipment selection, quotation, order management and project completion.

This is not a transactional sales position. It requires someone who can understand a customer’s application, evaluate technical requirements and develop a customized equipment solution that delivers long-term value.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, developers, building owners and other industry partners.
• Promote custom commercial and industrial HVAC equipment throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
• Work with consulting engineers during the design and specification stages of new construction and retrofit projects.
• Review mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, specifications and project requirements.
• Select and configure HVAC equipment based on airflow, heating, cooling, ventilation, energy-efficiency and application requirements.
• Prepare technical proposals, equipment selections, quotations and supporting documentation.
• Provide customers with technical presentations, product information and application guidance.
• Identify and pursue new projects, customers and market opportunities within the assigned territory.
• Manage opportunities throughout the complete sales cycle, from initial concept and specification through quotation, order placement and project completion.
• Coordinate with internal engineering, manufacturing and project teams to ensure proposed solutions meet customer and project requirements.
• Maintain accurate information regarding active projects, quotations, customer activity and sales opportunities.
• Provide ongoing support to customers and help address technical or commercial questions as projects progress.
• Stay informed about industry developments, building technologies, energy-efficiency standards and emerging HVAC applications.

Qualifications:

• A degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline.
• Previous experience in commercial HVAC, mechanical systems, building systems, technical sales, applications engineering or mechanical consulting is preferred.
• New engineering graduates with strong communication skills and an interest in technical sales are also encouraged to apply.
• An understanding of air-handling equipment, heating and cooling systems, ventilation, heat pumps, energy recovery or related mechanical equipment would be an asset.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and equipment schedules.
• Strong technical aptitude and an interest in learning complex, customized HVAC systems.
• Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
• A consultative approach with the ability to understand customer requirements and recommend practical technical solutions.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Self-motivated, professional and comfortable developing business within an assigned territory.
• A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
