Sessional Instructors - Department of Environmental Studies - Faculty of Science - Fall 2026

The Environmental Studies Program at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for Sessional Instructors during the forthcoming Fall 2026 semester . This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

ENV-2310 – Island Environmental Histories (Online)

Environmental history is broadly defined as the study of continuity and change in human relationships with the environment. This course introduces students to environmental history and historical methods with a focus on historic and current interaction with the environment on global islands. Special focus will be given to ocean, forest, and land use activity in Prince Edward Island and the islands in the Atlantic region.

ENV-3010 - Environmental Studies Internship

This course provides students with opportunities to develop, integrate, and apply their knowledge of environmental issues and theory. Students will be involved in 'internship' experiences with varied environmental organizations, in environmental action research on campus issues or in other settings, and in developing personal plans for environmental action and change. Classroom discussions and written work will aid students in developing a multidisciplinary and systems approach to the analysis of these experiences.

One and a half hours per week in class; two and a half hours per week in practicum work.

T/TH 4:00 – 5:15 PM

Qualifications

Successful applicants should have a minimum of a Master’s degree in an environmental or related field, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience in the subject area for the course. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research, or practice related to the course content.

Preference will be given to the qualified candidate with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster, and to those with experience in teaching university-level courses.
