Senator Buchanan Elementary School serves approximately 280 students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. We value inclusion, community, leadership and diversity. Subjects

Senator Buchanan Elementary School is seeking a Music and Physical Education/Wellness teacher to join their team. The successful candidate will be expected to teach students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 in Music and Fine Arts, as well as Physical Education and Wellness classes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in student support and hold an unwavering belief that every child is a capable learner and will have:

• An understanding of elementary music pedagogy, including vocal instruction, movement, rhythm, and basic instrumental approaches appropriate for K–5 learners;
• Knowledge of quality daily physical education and wellness practices, including age-appropriate physical literacy, inclusive games, and lifelong movement skills;
• Previous experience supporting diverse learners in inclusive classrooms, including adapting instruction for students with varied abilities, cultural backgrounds, and social-emotional needs;
• Familiarity with Alberta Programs of Study for Music and Physical Education & Wellness, including assessment and reporting aligned with curricular outcomes;
• Strong classroom management skills in active learning environments, such as gyms, music rooms, and shared instructional spaces.

Requirements

• Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.

Conditions of Employment

In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School

Division who are offered employment must provide:

• A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
• A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
• Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
• Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
