Experience working with public utilities, public‑sector organizations, or other sophisticated infrastructure customers is highly valued.

Job Description

About GE Vernova

GE Vernova is a leading provider of energy technologies and services committed to advancing a more sustainable electric power system. Hydropower is Canada’s largest source of renewable electricity and plays an important role in supporting a reliable, flexible, and lower‑carbon power grid.

GE Vernova’s Hydro Power business helps customers modernize existing hydropower facilities and develop projects that strengthen long‑term grid reliability, resilience, and flexibility.

Scope of the Role

  • Support one or more large-scale hydroelectric projects, primarily in British Columbia.
  • Provide flexibility to support projects elsewhere in Western Canada as business needs evolve.
  • Serve as a senior contractual advisor to project leadership and cross‑functional teams.
  • Operate as a senior individual contributor with significant influence across project organizations.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to less‑experienced contract management professionals, as appropriate.

Your Impact

  • Lead the contractual management of hydroelectric projects from the bidding stage through execution, close‑out, and warranty.
  • Protect and strengthen GE Vernova’s commercial and contractual position through disciplined contract execution.
  • Develop and implement contractual strategies aligned with each project’s objectives, risks, obligations, and opportunities.
  • Reduce contractual exposure while supporting the identification and realization of project opportunities.
  • Promote compliance, transparency, timely escalation, and effective decision‑making throughout the contract lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

End‑to‑End Contract Management

  • Manage the contractual aspects of assigned projects from bid preparation through execution, close‑out, and warranty.
  • Draft, review, and tailor commercial and contractual clauses based on project requirements and the applicable contractual framework.
  • Participate in the negotiation and finalization of contracts, amendments, change orders, and other commercial arrangements with customers, partners, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare contractual notices, amendments, change submissions, claims, and other formal communications in accordance with contract requirements and internal governance.
  • Ensure project teams understand and appropriately apply contractual rights, responsibilities, and obligations.
  • Collaborate with the Project Director and project teams to develop, communicate, and implement mitigation measures and opportunity plans.
  • Support project teams in establishing performance indicators and action plans for contractual risk and opportunity management.

Contract Strategy and Risk Management

  • Analyze contracts to identify risks, opportunities, deviations, assumptions, and key areas requiring ongoing attention.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the contract management plan for each assigned project.
  • Provide recommendations that protect GE Vernova’s commercial and contractual interests while supporting successful project delivery.
  • Ensure relevant contractual obligations are appropriately incorporated into supplier and subcontractor agreements on a back‑to‑back basis, where applicable.
  • Lead the development and execution of strategies related to changes, claims, dispute avoidance, and dispute resolution.
  • Manage contractual notices, changes, claims, disputes, and insurance‑related matters, as required.
  • Build effective working relationships with key representatives within customer and partner organizations.

Change, Claims, and Dispute Management

  • Identify potential contractual entitlement and exposure arising from delays, disruptions, scope changes, variations, and other project events.
  • Ensure notices and supporting documentation are prepared and issued within the time frames established by the contract.
  • Develop clear, well‑supported contractual positions for changes, claims, and negotiations.
  • Coordinate major claims and dispute‑related matters with Project Leadership, Legal, Finance, and other relevant functions.
  • Support dispute‑avoidance strategies and recommend practical solutions to complex contractual and commercial issues.
  • Preserve GE Vernova’s contractual rights through timely communication, documentation, and escalation.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Project Governance

  • Work closely with Project Management, Commercial Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, Finance, Legal, Sourcing, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Advise project teams on contractual issues and contribute to informed commercial and operational decision‑making.
  • Track contractual commitments and ensure contractual information is communicated effectively across the project organization.
  • Participate regularly in project risk and opportunity reviews.
  • Support project teams in identifying and implementing risk‑mitigation and opportunity‑capture plans.
  • Escalate material contractual and commercial issues openly and promptly to ensure visibility, alignment, and timely resolution.
  • Maintain constructive professional relationships with customers, partners, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, rigor, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Contract Compliance and Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor compliance with contractual terms and document deviations when necessary.
  • Establish and maintain tools for tracking obligations, milestones, notices, changes, claims, and other contractual events.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of contractual records and ensure the traceability of key decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage and analyze incoming and outgoing correspondence with customers and partners.
  • Establish and maintain commercial procedures related to correspondence, notifications, insurance, delays, variations, and claims documentation.
  • Provide regular contractual risk assessments and updates to project and functional leadership through established project‑governance processes.
  • Ensure contractual notices, correspondence, records, and supporting documentation are timely, complete, reliable, and maintained in accordance with internal governance and evidentiary requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, Quantity Surveying, Business, Finance, Law, or a related technical or commercial discipline.
  • A minimum of eight years of demonstrated contract management experience in complex project environments such as EPC, construction, infrastructure, energy, power generation, or other major industrial sectors.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Canadian energy or infrastructure sector.
  • Experience working with public utilities, public‑sector organizations, or other sophisticated infrastructure customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to compile, structure, draft, and manage complex, high‑value amendments, changes, claims, and contractual submissions.
  • Strong understanding of project financial considerations, including costs, margins, risks, opportunities, and cash impact, and their relationship to contract management.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, structure, and solve complex contractual and commercial problems.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Proactive working style, strong sense of ownership, and willingness to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Strong written and spoken English skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 15–25%, depending on project, site, customer, and business requirements.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong experience managing turnkey EPC projects or other complex project delivery models.
  • Experience in hydropower, power generation, major infrastructure, construction, or complex industrial‑project environments.
  • Experience administering major equipment supply, installation, consortium, or subcontracting arrangements.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment regarding contractual and commercial risk, with the ability to anticipate and proactively mitigate potential issues.
  • Experience managing significant changes, claims, insurance matters, or disputes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment.
  • Experience working within a complex global or matrixed organization.
  • Ability to communicate contractual risk, commercial exposure, and recommended strategy clearly to senior project and business leaders.
  • Ability to influence teams and stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
  • Experience coaching or providing guidance to less‑experienced contract management professionals.
