Interior Health is hiring a Term Specific Full Time Nurse Practitioner in Kamloops, BC at the Kamloops Primary Care Centre.

Primary care is often the first point of contact in the health care system and includes a range of services—whether it's a routine checkup with a family doctor, a session with a physiotherapist, or a consultation with a pharmacist or public health nurse. As a Nurse Practitioner within our Primary Health Care Centres, you will play a vital role in delivering collaborative, patient-centered care. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team that brings together physicians, other Nurse Practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, dietitians, mental health professionals, and other health care providers. This coordinated approach ensures clients receive timely, appropriate care from the right provider. In this role, you will provide comprehensive assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop individualized care plans. You will collaborate closely with team members to promote continuity of care, improve health outcomes, and ensure patients’ needs remain central to all care decisions.

Shifts: Monday-Thursday, 0800-1800, weekends and stats off *on call may be required.

Term Position End Date: June 01, 2028 or return of incumbent

Salary Range: Salary range for the position is $76.61/hour - $84.27/hour. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnosis and Treatment: Assess and diagnose undifferentiated diseases and conditions, provide treatment, and prescribe medications in line with the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice and regulatory standards.

Care Management: Monitor ongoing care, order diagnostic investigations, interpret results, and develop tailored treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes.

Patient Communication: Establish care priorities, provide follow-up treatment, and communicate effectively with patients and families about diagnoses, care plans, and prognoses.

Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, and create individualized treatment plans. May also admit and discharge patients as per organizational policies.

Prescribing Medication: Prescribe medications within legal and regulatory guidelines, ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical treatments.

Leadership and Supervision: Lead and guide other nursing and healthcare personnel. Provide education, supervision, and performance evaluations to support professional development.

Research and Innovation: Contribute to research aimed at enhancing patient care and advancing nursing practices. Participate in initiatives to influence healthcare policies and population health strategies.

Health Promotion: Lead health promotion activities and screenings, focusing on at-risk populations to prevent illness and promote well-being.

Education and Mentorship: Facilitate interdisciplinary education through case presentations, mentoring, and collaboration in clinical and community settings. Support continuous learning and knowledge sharing.

Policy Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate policies related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices.

Palliative and Long-Term Care: Serve as the most responsible provider for patients in palliative, hospice, and long-term care settings when required.

Safety and Compliance: Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Ensure compliance with training and incident investigation protocols.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as necessary to support patient care and organizational goals.
