One Application, Many Opportunities

This competition is part of the Future Opportunities Stream for Students—a centralized intake designed to build an inventory of students with diverse skills, interests, and experiences. Through this stream, students may be matched with a variety of opportunities as positions become available across government programs, including roles focused on innovation, digital services, data, and modern service delivery, as well as other emerging priority areas.

These opportunities are designed with students in mind. Positions are temporary and offer meaningful, hands‑on work experience that supports skill development, applied learning, and career exploration in digital and innovation‑focused environments.

Work close to home—or somewhere new. Opportunities may be available in multiple locations across Nova Scotia, depending on operational needs and student interest, including hybrid or technology‑enabled work environments where applicable.

As part of the application process, you will complete a series of pre-screening questions to help us better understand your skills, strengths, and interests. Not all skills are required for every role—some may be considered assets rather than essential, depending on the position. While there are several questions, they are designed to be straightforward and should not take long to complete. Thoughtful responses help us match students with the most suitable opportunities.

Digital services are a priority for the Province of Nova Scotia—and students play an important role in shaping them. Through this student intake, you may be matched with a variety of opportunities that support how government designs, delivers, and improves digital services for Nova Scotians.

Student opportunities may span a wide range of digital focus areas, including Digital Strategy and Engagement, Performance and Data Analysis, Data Management, Technical Support, Software Development, Business Analysis, Technical Documentation, and QA Testing. Depending on the role, you may help shape digital and data strategies, analyze how services are used, track meaningful metrics, create clear insights, support engagement activities, or contribute directly to building and improving digital solutions.

Across these opportunities, students collaborate with experienced professionals, contribute fresh ideas and innovative solutions, and gain hands‑on experience through mentorship, professional development, and valuable networking within a leading public‑sector digital organization.

Qualifications and Experience

 

We’re looking for enthusiastic, motivated students who are currently enrolled in a related postsecondary program and returning to their studies in the next academic term. You don’t need years of experience—bring your curiosity, energy, and willingness to learn and grow.

 

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program related to technology, digital services, data, business, communications, or a related field
• Returning to school in the next academic term following the work placement
• An interest in digital services and how technology can improve public services
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to learn new tools and approaches
• Comfort using computers and digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, email, online collaboration tools)
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• An interest in people‑centred service design
• A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility

 

Assets (nice to have, but not required) (new option below)

• Experience or coursework related to digital strategy, data analysis, IT, software development, UX/service design, or communications
• Familiarity with digital or analytical tools (e.g., data visualization tools, analytics platforms, basic coding, content or documentation tools)
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Experience working on team‑based projects or supporting engagement or consultation activities

 

Working Conditions

These student opportunities offer a supportive, learning‑focused environment where curiosity and skill development are encouraged. Roles are primarily based in office or digital work environments, with opportunities to collaborate virtually or in person, depending on the role and team. Work may include individual tasks, team projects, and engagement with partners across government.

These are student employment opportunities with start dates that vary by position—some roles begin as early as May, while others offer July–August work terms only. Pay Grade:HOURLY 

Salary Range:$16.75 - $31.02 Hourly
