First Aid Swim Training

The West Vancouver Community Services Department is currently seeing a First Aid Swim Training (FAST) Instructor. FAST is a young lifeguard education program that allows students to develop the essential skills to be successful and confident lifeguards. At the completion of the FAST program students will have obtained all of the required certification prerequisites necessary to enroll in the National Lifeguard Course, which students can take independently when they are 15 years of age or older. Completion of the National Lifeguard Course is the final credential necessary to qualify an individual to work as a lifeguard. The FAST Instructor works in partnership with the Aquatic Centre and the School District to facilitate the necessary components to help the students gain their certifications. In addition to developing strong first aid skills, the FAST program also focuses on providing students with a practical foundation in resistance and cardiovascular training, swimming, stroke-development, and leadership.
Required current Licenses and Certifications include:
- Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor (LSI);
- Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool Certificate;
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED; and,
- Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor
The preferred candidate will have 1 or more years of experience teaching Lifesaving Instructor (LSI).
The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check with vulnerable sector information and a copy of their credentials.
Non-Union – Casual
Hours and days of work will vary with shifts twice a week between 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 2026 to June 2027.
$30 per hour (2025 rate) plus 4% in lieu of benefits
