Senior Communications & Content Manager

Salary Range: CA$115,000.00 To CA$125,000.00 Annually

Job Overview

The Senior Communications & Content Manager, reporting into the Vice President of Marketing is responsible for developing and executing Gateway's communications strategy while creating compelling content that strengthens our brand, supports business growth, and engages employees, veterinary partners, pet parents, customers, and industry stakeholders.

Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, this role serves as Gateway's lead storyteller, copywriter, and strategic communications partner. The successful candidate will develop messaging, create engaging content, manage editorial calendars, own key communication channels, and ensure Gateway communicates with one clear, consistent voice across every touchpoint.

This is a highly collaborative, hands‑on role that works closely with the Senior Marketing Manager, Brand & Operations to translate messaging into marketing campaigns, creative assets, and customer experiences. In a lean organization, both roles are expected to collaborate, support one another, and contribute wherever needed while maintaining clear ownership of their primary responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Communications Strategy & Editorial Planning

• Partner with the Vice President of Marketing to develop and execute Gateway's internal and external communications strategy.
• Develop integrated communication plans supporting brand campaigns, business priorities, recruiting, product launches, executive communications, employee engagement, and corporate initiatives.
• Build and manage editorial and content calendars across website, public relations, internal communications, social media, sales enablement, and executive communications.
• Ensure all communications reinforce Gateway's mission, values, brand pillars, and Gold Standard positioning.

Copywriting, Content Development & Storytelling

Serve as Gateway's primary writer and editor across all communication channels.

• Write website copy, landing pages, brochures, presentations, sales messaging, email communications, executive messaging, press releases, campaign copy, customer communications, internal communications, and thought leadership content.
• Develop messaging frameworks that ensure consistency across all communications.
• Translate complex topics into clear, compelling, audience‑appropriate communications.
• Interview employees, customers, veterinary partners, executives, and subject matter experts to uncover meaningful stories.
• Develop customer testimonials, employee stories, case studies, executive thought leadership, and success stories.
• Collect team member testimonials that strengthen recruiting, culture, and employer branding.
• Edit and refine content created by executives, internal teams, and agency partners.
• Partner with the Senior Marketing Manager to bring messaging to life through compelling creative assets and integrated campaigns.

Website, Public Relations & Social Media

• Develop website messaging and copy for corporate websites, landing pages, educational resources, and recruiting content.
• Write press releases, award submissions, media materials, executive talking points, company announcements, and thought leadership content.
• Support speaking engagements, media opportunities, and public relations initiatives.
• Develop Gateway's social media content strategy and editorial calendar.
• Write engaging social media content supporting recruiting, education, company culture, customer engagement, and brand awareness.
• Partner with the Senior Marketing Manager on campaign execution and performance optimization.

Internal Communications

The Water Bowl

Own and manage The Water Bowl, Gateway's employee intranet.

• Publish company news, leadership communications, HR updates, employee stories, campaign updates, recognition programs, and organizational announcements.
• Maintain an engaging editorial calendar that keeps employees informed and connected.
• Support employee engagement while reinforcing Gateway's culture and values.

Gateway TV

Own Gateway TV as Gateway's internal communications channel.

• Develop messaging for employee recognition, leadership updates, safety communications, HR announcements, campaigns, and company news.
• Ensure employees receive timely, engaging, and consistent communications across all locations.

HR Communications & Employer Brand

• Partner closely with the VP of Marketing and Human Resources to support employer branding, recruiting communications, onboarding, employee engagement, recognition programs, leadership communications, and change management initiatives.
• Help bring Gateway's culture and values to life through meaningful employee storytelling and communication.
• Own the messaging, content strategy, and organization of Gateway's Showpad sales enablement platform.
• Develop messaging for sales presentations, battle cards, one‑pagers, customer stories, case studies, sales email templates, and customer‑facing communications.
• Partner with Sales to identify content needs and continuously improve sales messaging.
• Work closely with the Senior Marketing Manager to package, distribute, maintain, and improve sales materials based on field feedback.

Video & Multimedia Content

• Write scripts for brand videos, customer testimonials, employee stories, leadership messages, recruiting videos, training content, and social media videos.
• Capture simple photo and video content using a mobile phone while visiting care centers, customers, employees, and events.
• Transform interviews, photos, and raw video into compelling content across multiple communication channels.
• Partner with the Senior Marketing Manager, Head of Design, and external production partners on larger multimedia projects.

Brand Stewardship

• Maintain Gateway's brand voice across all communications.
• Partner closely with the Head of Design to ensure written and visual communications work together to create a consistent, engaging brand experience.
• Develop messaging guidelines, writing standards, communication templates, and editorial best practices.
• Ensure all communications align with Gateway's visual identity, brand standards, and creative direction.

Education, Training & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in corporate communications, content marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related communications role.
• Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
• Experience developing communication strategies and editorial calendars.
• Experience writing website content, sales collateral, internal communications, public relations materials, and social media content.
• Strong interviewing skills with the ability to uncover stories and translate conversations into compelling content.
• Experience partnering with executives and cross‑functional business leaders.
• Comfortable capturing simple photo and video content using a mobile phone and transforming it into engaging communications.
• Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Experience using Canva to create or edit branded communication materials.
• Excellent collaboration, relationship-building, and presentation skills.

Preferred

• Experience managing employee intranet platforms and internal communications channels.
• Experience supporting employer branding and HR communications.
• Experience in healthcare, veterinary, pet care, professional services, or another relationship‑driven industry.
