Emergency Medicine Opportunities – North Bay Regional Health Centre
We are a 24/7 department staffed by a collegial group of CCFP-EM, FRCP(EM) and experienced CCFP emergency physicians in a multidisciplinary team that includes a NP, PA, RTs, nurses, geriatric ED nurses, a sexual assault program and crisis intervention workers. Our department sees an average 120 patients per day in a fast-paced environment.
We are a regional stroke referral centre, a level III trauma centre and have a large catchment area of smaller surrounding communities. We have onsite CT, MRI and ultrasound imaging modalities. Our workload is broken into 7 shifts per day, typically with double or triple physician coverage. Our team is well supported by specialists including ortho, surgery, ENT, urology, pediatrics, anaesthesia, obstetrics & gynaecology and internal medicine and its subspecialties. NBRHC houses a 16-bed Critical Care Unit. We are fully supported by Dragon dictation and Meditech Expanse EMR.
Supervision
You will be working alongside a collegial team with at least one other physician in the ED, often more (aside from night shifts where you will have phone contact and rapid in‑person back‑up from ED colleagues as required). Our group supports new graduates into practice with a range of mentorship and support options.
Minimum Requirements
- PGY4 or PGY5 residents currently enrolled in a FRCPC EM program in an Ontario medical school and in good standing.
Additional Requirements
- ACLS, ATLS, PALS certification.
Remuneration
$161–$195 per shift, depending on shift type.

- 8‑hour acute shifts (0600‑1400, 1200‑2000, 1700‑0100, 2300‑0700)
- 8‑hour non‑acute shifts (0900‑1700, 1600‑2400)
- 6‑hour flexible shifts (1000‑1600)
