Bartender (Future Bar Manager Opportunity) - Minami, Yaletown

Minami is looking for an experienced bartender with strong leadership skills to join our team.

Located in the heart of Yaletown, Minami is a Japanese–West Coast restaurant known for thoughtful hospitality, premium ingredients, and a refined cocktail and sake program. Our bar focuses on Japanese and local spirits, seasonal ingredients, and cocktails designed to complement our cuisine.

How the position works

You'll begin as a part-time bartender (approximately 2 shifts per week) to learn our service style, team, and bar program.

Beginning in September , you'll start working closely alongside our current Bar Manager, gradually taking on leadership responsibilities and learning all aspects of the role. The goal is to transition into the Bar Manager position later this year through a structured handover.

We're looking for someone who enjoys more than just making great cocktails. We want someone who takes pride in building systems, training and developing a team, creating new menus, and constantly looking for ways to elevate the bar program.

We're looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience as a Bar Manager, Assistant Bar Manager, or in a supervisory bar leadership role
• Has strong bartending experience in a high-volume, cocktail-focused restaurant
• Is a natural leader who enjoys coaching, mentoring, and supporting a team
• Has exceptional hospitality and understands that guest experience always comes first
• Is organized, proactive, and thrives on creating systems and maintaining high standards
• Has experience with inventory management, ordering, scheduling, menu development, and costing 
• Has an interest in Japanese spirits, sake, and thoughtful cocktail creation
• Leads by example and stays calm under pressure

What you'll eventually be involved in:

• Leading and mentoring the bar team
• Inventory management and ordering
• Cocktail development and seasonal menu updates
• Staff training and product education
• Maintaining consistency, cleanliness, and service standards
• Working closely with the restaurant's leadership team
• Continuing to grow and evolve Minami's bar program
