Personal Support Worker

About the Client

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a senior woman who recently experienced a light fall and is currently recovering in the hospital. She will be discharged to Hilltop Retirement Home in Richmond Hill (Elgin Mills and Leslie area) within the next few days. This is her first time receiving professional care support, and the family is looking for someone who can provide consistent, skilled assistance during her recovery and potentially on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities

The caregiver will provide comprehensive personal care and companionship support. Key duties include assisting with mobility and transfers, as she uses mobility aids and needs support while walking. Personal care assistance is essential, including help with toileting, hygiene, and bathing or showering on alternating days. Light housekeeping tasks such as making the bed, tidying the room, doing laundry, and keeping her space fresh and comfortable are expected. The caregiver should provide supervision for safety due to cognitive needs, offering memory prompts and redirection as needed. Grooming assistance including hair care and back massages should be incorporated into visits. Taking her for walks and encouraging gentle movement is important for her recovery. The caregiver may occasionally need to provide transportation for errands or appointments.

What We're Looking For

We need a female caregiver who is calm, patient, and brings positive energy to each visit. The ideal candidate makes the client feel comfortable, is reliable and consistent, takes initiative when needed, and communicates clearly with the family. Experience with post-hospitalization care, mobility assistance, and personal care is essential. The caregiver should have strong skills in transfer techniques and toileting support, as well as experience providing cognitive supervision. English-speaking ability is required. The family values someone who respects their mother's independence while providing the necessary support, and who has the right skills and experience to handle her care needs with professionalism and warmth.

Schedule

Initially, care will be needed daily for the first week following discharge, with visits of approximately 3 hours each. The family is considering twice-daily visits during the initial recovery period—morning setup and evening settling. After the first week, the schedule will transition to 3-4 times per week on an ongoing basis, with each visit lasting 3 hours. The family is committed to working with one dedicated caregiver for at least one month, with the strong possibility of continuing long-term if the match is successful.
