The MSU represents full-time undergraduate students at McMaster University. The MSU purpose is to draw into a true society all students at McMaster University. In pursuit of this, it will foster activities and events which will enhance the University experience of its members and contribute to the life of the University as a whole. Further, it will seek to facilitate communication between the student body, the University and other organizations and will organize and regulate student self-government.

*This role has the opportunity for up to 2 days of work from home per week, however, busy periods will allow for less, and mean more time on campus. Occasional evenings/weekends will be required.

This role will primarily provide the administrative, operational and financial leadership of the HUB. The incumbent shall ensure the ongoing stability and growth of the HUB by developing and maintaining administrative and financial infrastructures, managing common space, and promoting activities and facilities of the HUB.

In addition, this role will oversee and provide leadership in relation to the planning and implementation of MSU Campus Events, including but not limited to: concerts, welcome week, speakers, audio visual technical services, formals, club events, educational and cultural events.

Lastly, the role will provide leadership, oversight, and continuity to the operation of the MSU Clubs department. These duties will include, but are not limited to, the overview of the MSU Clubs ratification process, support of the Clubs Administrator, support of the Clubs Advisory Council (CAC), ensuring compliance of clubs bylaws and policies, and liaising with Campus stakeholders to support clubs' operations.

Supervisory Function -Supervise all staff of the HUB/Campus Events/Clubs, including full-time, part-time and temporary staff.

Event Management Function - Participate on all steering committees for annual events.

-Oversee all events held during Welcome Week, Homecoming and Light Up The Night.

-Assist with event risk assessment and liaise with Hamilton and Campus partners in any licensed events and/or permitting requirements.

-Oversee- audio, video, and lighting requirements for MSU events.

Space management - Manage the allocation of all HUB common space and support the needs of MSU departments space with in the HUB. In addition, support the space needs of MSU event activities.

Business development -Research, develop, recommend and execute revenue-generating opportunities

Maintenance, repairs and improvements - Oversee the maintenance, repairs and improvements

Financial budgeting, management and control - Financial duties as outlined in the Operating Policy for HUB, including but not limited to; budgeting, payment systems, reviewing financial statements etc.

Policies and procedures - Develop, implement and maintain operating policies and procedures with respect to the following functions within

-programming of the Marketplace and booking of common space;

-agreements between tenants and the Board of Management;

-repair and maintenance of the facilities;

-Scheduling of technical and digital equipment maintenance

-Technical and digital equipment booking and user guidelines.

-Sponsorship packages and pricing guidelines

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

-Interpersonal skills are required to be able to interact effectively with individuals in a variety of roles, as contact with individuals, groups and agencies is ongoing (i.e., staff, peers, students, community members and other external sources).

-Resourcefulness is required to develop policies, identify key internal and external contacts and to study market conditions.

-Analytical and problem-solving skills are required for financial, facilities and interpersonal matters.

-Negotiating skills are required to broker deals with third party tenants, contractors and transient occupants.

-Knowledge of basic landlord/tenant issues and employment standards

-Judgment is required for staff discipline issues and for approval of budget expenditures.

-Interpretation of policies and procedures as set out by the Board of Management is required in making decisions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

-Post-secondary degree or diploma in business administration and management;

-5 years management experience within a multi-faceted environment;

-specific training or experience with accounting and/or financial management; or

-equivalent combination of above education, training and experience.
