We are currently looking for talented and inspiring person to come join ourteam in the following position,Job Summary: The Grade 7-8 Teacher in a BC First Nations Community is responsible for providingquality education to students in grades 7 and 8, while incorporating First Nations culture, values,and traditions into the curriculum. This position involves creating a safe and inclusive learningenvironment that promotes academic achievement, cultural understanding, and personal growth.The Grade 7-8 Teacher collaborates with colleagues, community members, and parents to supportthe holistic development of students and foster a strong connection to their First Nations heritage.1. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the BC curriculum andincorporate First Nations culture, history, and perspectives.2. Create a supportive and culturally responsive learning environment that values and respectsthe unique identities and experiences of First Nations students.3. Teach a range of subjects, including language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, andcultural studies, using instructional strategies that cater to diverse learning styles.4. Integrate First Nations knowledge and perspectives into subject areas to enhance students'understanding and appreciation of their heritage.5. Utilize appropriate assessment methods to evaluate student progress and adjust instructionaccordingly.6. Provide individualized support and guidance to students, addressing their academic, social,and emotional needs.7. Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary activities and projects that promotecross-curricular learning and cultural understanding.8. Incorporate technology and other resources effectively to enhance teaching and learningexperiences.9. Involve parents, guardians, and community members in the education process throughregular communication, parent-teacher conferences, and community events.10. Foster positive relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model whilepromoting self-esteem and cultural pride.11. Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stayinformed about current educational practices and First Nations cultural protocols.12. Participate in school and community events, ceremonies, and initiatives that promotecultural preservation and celebration.13. Collaborate with the school's First Nations Education Coordinator and other staff to ensurethe integration of cultural activities and resources into the curriculum.14. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and other relevantinformation.15. Comply with all school policies, procedures, and regulations, including those related tohealth and safety.1. Bachelor's degree in education or a related field. A specialization in First Nations educationor Indigenous studies is an asset.2. Valid teaching certification issued by the BC Ministry of Education.3. Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, traditions, and history, with acommitment to integrating these aspects into the curriculum.4. Familiarity with the BC curriculum and its application at the grade 6-7 level.5. Experience working in a First Nations community or with Indigenous students is preferred.6. Ability to create culturally responsive and inclusive learning environments that value andrespect diversity.7. Strong instructional and classroom management skills, with the ability to engage andmotivate students.8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish positiverelationships with students, parents, and community members.9. Flexibility and adaptability to meet the unique needs and challenges of a First Nationscommunity.10. Understanding of trauma-informed practices and strategies to support students' social andemotional well-being.11. Proficiency in the use of technology for instructional purposes and student assessment.12. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and work as part of a team.13. Commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to learn about localFirst Nations culture, traditions, and protocols.14. Respect for confidentiality and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
