- Serve as the company's extrusion subject matter expert and optimize processing parameters (moisture, temperature, screw configuration, shear, throughput)
- Develop new methodologies to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency; lead troubleshooting of complex challenges
- Develop innovative plant-based proteins, cereals, snacks, crisps, textured ingredients, and functional food ingredients from concept to commercialization
- Design and execute bench-top, pilot, and commercial-scale trials; evaluate new raw materials and ingredient systems
- Establish process specifications, operating windows, and production documentation; support customer production trials
- Track emerging technologies in plant proteins, pulse processing, extrusion, and alternative proteins
- Build partnerships with equipment manufacturers, universities, and research institutions; lead experimental design and develop IP
- Provide technical leadership and present findings to customers and leadership
- Support commercial teams with technical expertise during customer engagements
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field; MSc or PhD preferred
- 8+ years of industrial extrusion experience with a proven track record of commercializing extruded food products
- CFS, HACCP, or SQF certification preferred
- Strong understanding of protein functionality, starch chemistry, and ingredient interactions
- Proficiency in extrusion simulation software (e.g., Ludovic, ANSYS Polyflow)
- Experience with SPC, DOE, and statistical tools such as Minitab or JMP
- Plant-based protein, pulse processing, and TVP experience preferred
- Publication, patent, or industry innovation experience preferred
- Able to work in rotational shifts or on call if needed
- Class 5 license and own transportation is desired
- Able to provide 2 professional references
- Able to pass a background check if needed
- Location: Northeast Calgary, Alberta
