Reliability Specialist

Job Responsibility:
The Reliability Specialist's responsible to provide programming and controls support to Project managers on capital projects. Provide support and corrective actions to production and maintenance on day-to-day controls related problems. Implement cost reduction improvements using value analysis and identify areas for improvement with other departments to resolve chronic problems. Give technical direction to trades with respect to electrical and controls diagnostics. Participate in capital project planning and management in support of the Spring Division's strategic objectives for equipment productivity improvements, safety enhancements, capacity, and capability development.
· Provide programming and controls related support on all capital and non-capital projects
· Evaluate and implement as appropriate, various improvements as requested from production departments
· Assist skilled trades in repair methodology and in M/C troubleshooting
· Update and maintain electrical drawing database in ACAD
· Assist in directing skilled trades, train in areas identified for skill upgrades
· Assist in establishing, maintaining, and modifying a preventive maintenance program for any and all production equipment
· Establish and document procedures to resolve chronic manufacturing problems
· Lead or participate in cross-functional teams within the facility
· Review and advise suppliers and integrators on preferred wiring and control methods.
· Update and maintain electrical and controls standards for the facility
· Develop and co-ordinate effective backup systems for equipment programs, parameters, recipe databases, etc.
· Ensure PLC and related online software packages are maintained and up to date for plant PC systems
· Ensure the proper installation and operation of machinery safety devices. Consult with Health & Safety Manager and Joint health and Safely Committee as necessary.
· Audit existing equipment to avoid obsolescence and minimize spare parts
· Audit and report on key work center rates and efficiencies
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years' experience in an automated manufacturing environment or heavy metal industry
- Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
- Must be competent in mechanical and electrical control disciplines
- Proficient knowledge and application of ABB robot systems - IRC5
- Working knowledge of industrial & PC Interfaces - RS View, Panel View, Factory Talk
- Working knowledge of industrial communications - DeviceNet, Ethernet, Modbus
- Working knowledge of relevant standards and codes - Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Pre-start reviews, CSA, TSSA, Electrical Safety code
- Knowledge and understanding of all major Allen Bradley PLC platforms including SLC500, ControlLogix, CompactLogix and related online software packages
