Site Superintendent

Due to managing a project outside our typical zone of operation we are seeking a temporary Site Superintendent for a fixed term contract to assist in delivering a design/build project in Chilliwack. About You

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Advanced knowledge of construction plans, building layouts, and construction techniques and methods;
• Advanced knowledge of scheduling concepts (i.e. milestones, Gantt charts, etc.);
• Advanced knowledge of the BC Building Code and municipal building bylaws;
• Proficient in the use of basic hand tools and power tools;
• Strong team leadership and proactive problem solving skills;
• Strong negotiation and crisis management skills;
• Strong customer service skills;
• Strong organizational and time management skills;
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English; and
• Basic knowledge of computer software including MS Office and project management software (SiteMax).

Experience

• 5+ years of experience as a site superintendent in the construction industry; and
• Commercial office tenant improvement (TI) construction industry experience preferred.

Credentials

• High school diploma;
• Level 2 First Aid Certification;
• Construction Safety Officer (CSO) Certification preferred; and
• Clean Driver’s License.

About the Role

The fixed term contract Site Superintendent manages the onsite construction of the Chilliwack Project from beginning to completion, ensuring that all steps in the construction process are followed correctly. They supervise all personnel on the project site, schedule work activities with internal/external stakeholders, and ensure that the projects is completed safely on budget, on time, and per quality expectations. The Site Superintendent acts as a representative of Aura Office Environments at the client site and participates in aspects of manual labour as required.

• Follow pre-construction and construction processes;
• Manage and coordinate site mobilization to ensure site is set up adequately (safety, signage, job box, tables, chairs etc.);
• Participate in all project related meetings including start-up meetings and site setup meetings to communicate schedules, create mutual goals, and establish guidelines and communication rhythms in the context of resourcing, scheduling, and budgeting;
• Host weekly trade coordination meetings and safety toolbox talks;
• Work with Project Manager/Project Coordinator to assemble & distribute recurring 2 or 3 week look ahead schedules to the trades;
• Responsible for the implementation and compliance of Aura Site Safety including orientations;
• Review drawing details vs actual site conditions and communicate anomalies with Project Manager & Design;
• Arrange and/or facilitate City and consultants’ inspections as required in collaboration with the Project Manager;
• Coordinate with the landlord and/or tenant as required;
• Oversee site construction from start-to-finish, ensuring that contractors, labourers, and trades execute their duties per the most recent drawings, on budget, on time, and per quality expectations;
• Manage, schedule and organize materials deliveries (book elevators, notify landlord in advance etc.);
• Manage recurring trade clean up and removal of debris from site to maintain a clean, organized site;
• Participate in site walkthroughs and checklists reviewing to-do’s daily and
• Coordinating with project stakeholders to ensure they are completed;
• Address and/or escalate issues accordingly (i.e., site problems/delays, challenges with trades, failed inspections, safety incidents, etc.);
• Inform Project Managers of project status on a regular basis (schedule delays, cost overruns, trade issues, or other project problems/successes);
• Review changes in Scope and consult with Project Coordinators;
• Schedule and notify all inspectors to complete inspection and re-inspection;
• Coordinate with Project Manager/Project Coordinator and trades to address all deficiencies in a timely manner;
• Provides general labour, materials management, including material transportation, and clean-up as required; and
• Assist with undertaking other duties and responsibilities as required.
