With more than 5,000 donations bins and an active home pick-up service in communities across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items, using them to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada.

Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. Position Overview

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Clerk supports the Operations Manager to meet the National Diabetes Trust’s (NDT) mission through various revenue generation methods, with a specific focus on Declutter operations, the door-to-door, and donation box collection of used clothing and household items. The Clerk delivers exceptional customer service to donors by assisting in the seamless operation of the Business Operations office by coordinating and scheduling collection activities.

Responsibilities

• To understand and promote the mission of the NDT to the general public and to all volunteers
• Have a thorough knowledge of the organization goals and objectives, services, programs, and organizational structure at all levels
• Respond to incoming calls, handle customer inquiries, and redirect calls as required
• Accommodate customer requests for pick up dates.
• Ensure client service and follow up via telephone or web within 1 business day
• Conduct customer callbacks for missed pickups and reschedules.
• Assist customers with handling of donations of used clothing and household items at the office
• Prepare drivers’ daily paperwork, ensuring accuracy of all information
• Update database from previous day’s routes, clean and incorporate new client information as per Canada Post standards
• Accurately input and file all driver, route and vehicle documentation.
• Communicate special pickups and cancellations to drivers in a timely manner
• Communicate necessary information to/from Drivers and Value Village
• Notify Manager/Supervisor regarding issues concerning Drivers, trucks, and complaints
• Reconciling receipts, invoices, and other documents
• Ensure effective communication from day shift to evening shift
• Provide general clerical support to management staff
• Additional duties as required ensuring the effective function of Operations

Skills And Qualifications

• College Diploma in Business or equivalent relevant experience
• 1-2 years of office experience
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to project a positive business-like image to the public
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
• Ability to provide calm assistance to upset clients
• Ability to maintain public relations type attitude even during stressful situations
• Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions
• Pleasant and professional telephone manner
• Strong command of the English language
• Superior customer service skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Bilingualism is an asset
