This full-time replacement position is available as of July 1st, 2026 at Riverside School Board offices, located at 7525 Chemin de Chambly, in Saint-Hubert.

ASSIGNMENT

The position of speech therapist encompasses, in particular, responsibilities for detection and evaluation activities with students experiencing or likely to experience hearing, language, speech or voice problems and for determining as speech therapy and intervention plan focusing on prevention, readaptation or rehabilitation period. The speech therapist is also responsible for implementing the treatment and intervention plan.

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:

• Work collaboratively with fellow Speech-Language Pathologists and the multidisciplinary team with the Complementary Services department.
• Identify the needs of students experiencing communication challenges.
• Analyze and interpret the information collected regarding the hearing, language, and speech problems and determine a treatment plan adapted to the student’s abilities, taking into account the student’s personal and environmental needs.
• Prepare speech therapy intervention plans adapted to the student’s abilities, while taking into account the student’s personal and environmental needs
• Develop and implement a speech therapy plan that meets academic and administrative requirements of both the educational institutions and the school board.
• Participate in the planning, delivery or supervision of activities designed to prevent the onset of communication problems or to detect communication differences requiring adaptation, and to complement the activities of others involved in intervention efforts.
• Identify students experiencing difficulties using a preventive, accommodative, and intervention-focused approach. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to review and discuss the student’s individualized education plan (IEP), including the speech therapy treatment and intervention plan. If necessary, participate in defining the intervention objectives and strategies.
• S/He works with other team members to harmonize and coordinate interventions and to assess the achievement of objectives.
• Work with classes or groups of students exhibiting common difficulties to facilitate their learning and social integration.

• Provide advice and support to teachers and explain the nature of the student’s communication differences so that supportive teaching and instructional materials may be used. Inform teachers of the effect of the differences on the student's or group’s learning and social adaptation;
• Ensure the development and adaptation of existing learning materials.
• Participate in discussions with parents, teachers and school teams in the implementation of the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices.
• Support family members and school resource teams by providing pertinent advice and necessary tools to help the student with communication needs.
• Plan, organize and conduct training, information sessions and awareness building activities related to communication differences.
• Establish and maintain collaboration and relationships with partner organizations by contacting those involved in intervention efforts to obtain or provide advice/information.
• Refer the student or his or her parents to resources appropriate for the situation and needs.
• Advise management staff, prepare expertise, evaluation, briefing and progress reports and make appropriate recommendations to support decision-making.
• Prepare and update files according to the standards related to the practice of the profession and the rules defined by the school board.
• Write progress notes or evaluation, end-of-process and follow-up reports on his or her interventions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Be a member in good standing with the Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec .

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

A bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialty, notably psychology.

ANNUAL BASIC SALARY:

$57,492 to $105,469 per year (35-hour work week), according to qualifications and experience.
