JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Employment & Social & Development Lead, the Employment and Training Coordinator is responsible for providing information about employment and training to First Nation clients, helping to identify employment goals and assisting with career planning. They will be knowledgeable about current labour market trends, education and training programs and funding options. The Employment and Training Coordinator also liaises with businesses, contractors and organizations to promote skilled members for employment opportunities. 

REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reports to the Employment & Social & Development Lead.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide employment, vocational and career counseling to First Nations persons in conjunction with the Education and Social Development & Training Service Departments
• Work with Okanagan Training and Development Council (OTDC) staff, Employment Services staff and educational institutions on applications and access to funding sources
• Assist with the development of short-term proposals, as requested by departments and related organizations associated with the Band
• Meet with clients to obtain employment history, education background and career goals
• Assist clients to define employment goals, develop a personalized/self-directed action plan, and assist the client with the application and/or proposal process
• Guide clients through on-line career, employability skills and education assessments
• Act as a liaison between Band Departments promoting awareness of training and employment initiatives
• Liaise with community organizations that are involved with training and employment of Aboriginal persons
• Maintain client files for purposes of program referral, work placement, project evaluation and quarterly reporting
• Provide follow-up on placements and track client progress using the ARMS web-based database system
• All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services.  Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.
• Participates in community events as requested
• Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and procedures
• Performs other duties as required

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
You have education, experience, or an equivalent combination may be considered. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, have a willingness to contribute to a team and an excellent communicator.

Education

• Minimum of Grade 12
• Data Management Program
• Financial Management Program
• Career Development Practitioner Certificate or willingness to obtain
• Human Services Work Degree is preferred
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Valid BC Driver’s licence, Class 5 and reliable vehicle

Experience

• 2 years employment counseling or client-based service experience
• Program design and development experience
• Experience working with First Nations communities
• Experience facilitating sessions for resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, self-marketing

CLASSIFICATION/PAY SCALE
$28.00 - $32.00 per hour dependant upon education and experience.
