Job Description

At Eataly, this position is referred to as a Prep Cook. A Prep Cook is part of Eataly Toronto’s Central Kitchen team, where a wide variety of fresh ingredients and recipes are prepared from scratch daily for our restaurants, cafés and to-go counters. Prep Cooks work alongside an experienced culinary team, learning different cooking techniques, recipes and professional kitchen equipment while contributing to the quality and consistency Eataly is known for

This role offers the opportunity to develop a broad range of culinary skills through hands-on experience with protein butchery and preparation, hot cooking, sauce and ragù, stock, dressing and aioli, vegetable preparation, and other from-scratch production. Reports to the Sous Chef Manager.

• Prepares a variety of from-scratch recipes including sauce, ragù, stock, dressing, aioli, fillings, salads and other Eataly specialties
• Prepares and butchers proteins and processes fresh vegetables and other ingredients for production
• Measures, weighs, cuts, mixes, cooks and portions ingredients according to Eataly recipes and quality standards
• Uses a variety of cooking methods and professional kitchen equipment, including commercial ovens, mixers, food processors and other production equipment
• Follows standardized recipes, preparation methods, portion sizes and quality standards to ensure consistency
• Works alongside all team members in different areas of the Central Kitchen to complete daily production
• Maintains clean, organized and food-safe work areas, utensils and equipment
• Follows food safety, sanitation and health & safety standards
• Performs other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

• 1+ year of kitchen experience
• Basic math skills
• Good knife skills and finger dexterity to use small tools and utensils adeptly
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Job Requirements

• Availability to work onsite with a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and exert well-paced mobility
• Ability to spend up to 8 hours standing or walking in a kitchen and restaurant environment
• Ability to work with commercial equipment including stand mixers, ovens, torches, etc.

Compensation

• Compensation for this role is CAD $18.00-$21.00 hourly
