Position: Full Stack Developer – Senior

Number of Positions: 10

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Work Arrangement: Primarily remote within Canada, with up to 10% onsite/travel in Edmonton as required

Contract: 1 year, with potential extension up to 24 months

Hours: 36.25 hours/week, 7.25 hours/day

Position Overview

The Government of Alberta is seeking experienced Senior Full Stack Developers to support the development, modernization, enhancement, and maintenance of digital applications.

The successful candidates will work across frontend and backend technologies, participate in technical discovery and solution design, develop and test software, collaborate with product and design teams, and contribute to modern software engineering practices.

Candidates should have strong experience building modern full-stack applications in complex Agile environments , with particular strength in JavaScript frameworks, backend development, databases, automated testing, CI/CD, architecture, and application modernization.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Full Stack Developer will:

• Participate in technical discovery and solution design .
  
• Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  
• Design and develop full-stack applications.
  
• Develop frontend features using modern JavaScript frameworks.
  
• Develop backend services and APIs.
  
• Create technical diagrams, architecture documentation, and development documentation.
  
• Design and implement reusable software components.
  
• Develop new features and enhancements.
  
• Troubleshoot and resolve application defects.
  
• Perform code reviews and maintain code quality.
  
• Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests.
  
• Collaborate with UX/UI designers and product teams.
  
• Provide technical advice and guidance to Product Owners.
  
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and iterative development.
  
• Support application deployment and production launches.
  
• Contribute to CI/CD and development tooling.
  

Requirements

Mandatory Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field/equivalent
  
• 5+ years Git/source control in collaborative development
  
• 3+ years automated unit and integration testing
  
• 3+ years database technologies
  
• 5+ years Full Stack Development in complex Agile environments
  
• 3+ years production applications using modern frameworks and frontend JavaScript frameworks
  
• Conflict of Interest attestation
  

Nice-to-Have

• 2+ years legacy-to-modern digital transformation
  
• 1+ year generative AI/agentic tooling, RAG and prompt design
  
• 2+ years with Angular/React/Vue + .NET Core/Node.js/Python
  
• 2+ years software architecture/design patterns
  
• 2+ years Government of Alberta development guidelines
  
• 2+ years CI/CD
  
• 2+ years working with UX/service design/human-centred design teams
