Remote Senior Full-Stack Developer

Client: Government of Alberta – Digital Design and Delivery Division (3D)

Location: Edmonton, Alberta / Primarily Remote within Canada

Contract: 1 year, with potential extension up to 24 months

Hours: 7.25 hours/day, 36.25 hours/week

Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta time

Edmonton Onsite: Up to 10% of total hours

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalencies considered

Job Summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking Full Stack Developers to support service innovation, program review, and digital transformation initiatives within the Digital Design and Delivery Division (3D) .

Developers will work as part of cross-functional Agile product teams alongside Product Owners, UX/service designers, researchers, and other technical professionals. The role focuses on designing, developing, testing, deploying, and continuously improving modern, user-centric digital services for Albertans.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in field research, user interviews, and technical discovery .
Lead technical discovery and create architecture diagrams, documentation, and technical artifacts.
Design and develop full-stack solutions based on business and user needs.
Develop new features and enhancements for digital services.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve functional and non-functional defects.
Improve code quality, development tooling, documentation, and application maintainability.
Collaborate with frontend, UX, and service designers to deliver consistent user experiences.
Provide technical advice to Product Owners regarding implementation options and delivery approaches.
Support application deployment, launch, and production releases.
Design and develop reusable components, services, and common capabilities.
Support continuous improvement of development and quality practices.
Onboard and mentor technical team members.
Maintain technical documentation and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
Work across 2–3 projects and adapt solutions based on evolving user and business requirements.
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience using Git/source control in collaborative software development environments.
• 3+ years of experience with automated unit testing and integration testing .
• 3+ years of experience with database technologies, including relational and alternative/NoSQL databases .
• 5+ years of experience as a Full Stack Developer working on complex software solutions within Agile teams.
• 3+ years of experience developing production applications using modern application frameworks and frontend JavaScript frameworks .
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field ; equivalencies considered.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• 2+ years transforming legacy systems into modern digital services across multiple releases.
• 1+ year leveraging Generative AI and agentic tooling , including prompt design, RAG, workflow automation, structured retrieval, and evaluation of AI outputs.
• 2+ years with one or more of the following technology stacks:
• Frontend: Angular, React, Vue.js
• Backend: C#/.NET Core, Node.js, NestJS, Express, Python/Django

2+ years applying software design patterns and architecture principles .
2+ years working with Government of Alberta development guidelines and principles .
2+ years working with CI/CD pipelines .
2+ years working with teams using UX design, service design, design thinking, or human-centered design approaches.
