Position: Weekend Writer, News, CP24, Bell Media, Unionized,

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Salary: Group 3, salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, including weekends, plus overtime as needed

Status: Full Time (Saturday & Sunday + 3 weekday shifts)

Come join the dynamic team at CP24, Toronto’s Breaking News. We’re looking for an experienced writer who thrives in a live environment. This team member should have news writing experience, be passionate about generating compelling local content, and know the value of good storytelling across multiple platforms. If you are a motivated self-starter, who excels in the fast-paced world of covering the biggest stories in Canada’s largest city, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for writing news stories, headlines and banners for television
• Working with producers, assignment editors, reporters and anchors on stories
• Other duties as assigned

Critical Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience writing for broadcast
• A degree/diploma in television broadcasting or journalism is preferred
• A highly developed editorial sense, someone who knows what the top stories are every day
• Capable of distilling complex issues into clear, concise copy under deadline pressures
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Previous experience working in a live news environment is preferred
• Knowledge of iNews is an asset
• Experience in dealing with breaking news coverage

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
