Technical Writer (12-Month Contract)

SpryPoint

The Company

2025 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Canada Recipient & Fast 500 North America Recipient

SpryPoint is modernizing how utilities serve their communities. As a high-growth software company, we're shaking up the status quo in the utility industry with the first and only truly cloud-native customer service and operations platform purpose-built for modern utilities.

Founded by industry veterans in 2011, we've grown from a profitable startup to a rapidly scaling company of 300+ employees serving 100+ utility clients across North America and the Caribbean. Our mission is simple: utility leaders should expect more from their technology providers.

Utilities face urgent demand to replace inefficient legacy systems while managing increasing operational complexity, and evolving customer expectations. With more than a decade of experience, and a track record of successful implementations spanning water, electric, and gas utilities, SpryPoint has built a reputation as a trusted and mission-critical partner to utilities across North America.

We deliver comprehensive solutions including SpryCIS, SpryEngage, SpryMobile, and SpryWallet that modernize the entire meter-to-cash process. What sets us apart? Our "updates, not upgrades" approach, user-centric design, and unwavering focus on customer success.

Backed by strategic investment from Norwest Venture Partners since 2023, and an exciting new investment partnership from Insight Partners announced in 2026, we're accelerating our growth while staying true to our core values: lead with kindness, vision with impact, radical honesty, bold disruption, keep it simple, and execute with excellence.

Join our award-winning team in transforming an essential industry that powers communities across the Americas.

Position Overview

SpryPoint is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our team on a 12-month contract. As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for creating clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation, including user guides and release notes. Your role will be critical in ensuring our customers can effectively utilize our products and stay informed about new features and updates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and manage user guides, release notes, and other technical documentation to support SpryPoint’s product offerings
  • Ensure release notes are accurate, clear, and completed on time for every sprint, consistently meeting the bi-weekly deadlines
  • Work closely with product managers, developers, and customer support teams to gather information and understand the intricacies of our products
  • Convert complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand content for end-users with varying levels of technical expertise
  • Ensure that all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and consistent with SpryPoint’s style and branding guidelines
  • Review and edit documentation created by other team members to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to the company’s standards
  • Establish and maintain templates, guidelines, and best practices for technical documentation
  • Collect and incorporate feedback from users and stakeholders to continuously improve documentation quality and relevance

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in a software or technology-related environment. Experience with Customer Information Systems, Work and Asset Management, or Customer Self-Serve applications would be beneficial. Experience in the Utilities Industry is helpful, but not required.
  • Strong understanding of software development processes and ability to comprehend technical concepts quickly
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Experience writing documentation in Markdown using a docs-as-code workflow, as well as proficiency with traditional documentation tools such as Google Docs, Snagit, and Microsoft Word. (We currently use a mix of both and are moving toward docs-as-code as our primary workflow)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field is desirable; however, equivalent real-world experience with technical writing for a software company is also welcome.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Agile development practices and experience in writing documentation in an Agile environment
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design tools to create visuals or diagrams that enhance documentation would be nice to have.
  • Experience with Git-based documentation tools (e.g., Markdown, GitHub/GitLab) is a strong plus, as we're actively transitioning our workflow in this direction
