Healthcare Support Worker - Neurosurgery

The Role

As a Healthcare Support Worker within Regional Services, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality personal care and support to patients under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse. You will assist patients with activities of daily living, support the delivery of safe and compassionate care, and help maintain a clean, organised, and safe ward environment. The role also involves supporting ward housekeeping duties, maintaining stock levels, and contributing to the effective day-to-day running of the department.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Heath and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• 2 x Permanent Roles
• Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
• 36 Hours (12 Hours - Days, Nights, Weekends)

Key Responsibilities

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will support the delivery of direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality, person-centred care. You will assist patients with activities of daily living, observe and report any changes in their physical or psychological condition, and maintain positive and empathetic relationships with patients, relatives and carers. The post holder will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to support patient care, maintain patient confidentiality, adhere to infection prevention and control procedures, and follow all relevant policies, procedures and standards. You will also contribute to ward housekeeping, stock control, safe use of equipment and resources, and maintain accurate patient records where required. In addition, you will take part in ongoing training and personal development to maintain and enhance your skills and knowledge.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Experience working within a healthcare, care or support environment.
• Understanding of person-centred patient care.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Awareness of patient confidentiality and data protection requirements.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control procedures.
• Understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
• Ability to recognise and report changes in a patient's condition to a Registered Nurse.
• Basic record-keeping skills, including completion of patient documentation such as fluid balance charts.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training, education and professional development.
• Ability to safely use ward-based equipment following appropriate training.
• Understanding of stock control and housekeeping responsibilities within a clinical environment.
