Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to join a respected Employment & Labour Law Group. The successful candidate will provide strategic legal counsel to a broad base of employer clients across a wide range of employment and labour matters. You will manage your own caseload, provide day‑to‑day client advice, and represent clients in negotiations and before courts and tribunals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and risk management support to employers on all aspects of employment law including hiring, discipline, termination, and policy development.
- Draft and review employment agreements, workplace policies, and termination packages.
- Represent clients in employment litigation matters such as wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, human rights complaints, and employment standards disputes.
- Advise on compliance with workplace legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Represent clients before courts, tribunals, and administrative bodies, including the Ontario Labour Relations Board and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
- Assist employer clients with workplace investigations and collective bargaining (if applicable).
- Develop and deliver workplace training sessions and seminars for clients.
- Work collaboratively within a team environment, including mentoring junior lawyers and supporting the firm’s marketing and business development initiatives.
- Be comfortable with business development (BD) and managing client relationships, including corporate client experience .
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of post‑call experience in employment and labour law.
- Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Proven experience advising and representing employer clients.
- Strong litigation, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple files in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong business acumen and client service orientation.
- Comfortable with business development and managing corporate client relationships.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset, but not required.
