Electrical Engineering Technologist – Red Deer, Alberta

Responsibilities

• The primary function of the Electrical Technologist will be to design, install, maintain, program, configure and troubleshoot electrical machinery, controls, industrial automation and data acquisition systems.
• Receive and/or prepare wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions covering scheduled and emergency repairs, installation and inspection work.
• Analyze all types of drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and install circuits and equipment, determine material or replacement needs and select a logical approach to troubleshooting and repair problems.
• Plan details or working procedures to achieve the most logical approach to the job.
• Plan and perform work requiring specification codes, material properties, and principles of operation and application of equipment.
• Locate source of trouble for any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation.
• Dismantle, inspect, repair, adjust or replace faulty parts and wiring on motors, generators, power distribution and control panels, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic devices, etc.
• Replace coils, resistors, relays and rheostats, etc.
• Program and configure automation controllers such as PLCs, robotic controllers, variable frequency drives, DC drives, etc.

Requirements

• Electrical engineering technologist diploma.
• Red Seal Journeyman Electrician preferred.
• 1–5 years working in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Experience with electrical controls, transmitters, valves, drives, temperature measuring devices and programmable logic controllers and automation software.
• Willingness to work shift work (days and nights).
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Good problem solving and analytical skills.
